Dash cam recommendations?

Is this the one you got? It says a129, but it doesn't look like yours.

VIOFO Dual Dash Cam, 2K 1440P 60fps+1080P 30fps Front and Rear Dash Camera with Wi-Fi GPS, Parking Mode, Emergency Recording, Super Capacitor, Motion Detection (A129 Plus Duo) https://a.co/d/coXkKKf
Sorry for the typo, I got the A139 pro not the 129. I'll go back and edit my post. I wanted 4k resolution to better read license plates.

I got this one:

Yes. Its big as hell but it is super easy to save and play back footage and it has a "real" GPS built in.
I mounted it on my rearview mirror and tapped for power off of it. No cords hanging down.
Thinking about mounting a back-up camera on the front so I can have a poor man's trail camera.

I will defintely be looking into one, maybe fitcam or redtiger. I had a basic $20 dashcam & worked good for trips, just not easy to transfer to a phone lasted for 1year. Crazy with all the 360 cameras in our tremor, nothing records.

That is the dream scenario to have the factory cams double as dash cams, but to my knowledge only Tesla currently does this in the US. The Korean version of my wife’s Kia will, but the US spec does not. It sure why.

I am more than happy with my FITCAMX for what it cost and ease of install and use along with it being almost unnoticeable.

Looks like the Fitcamx will still work with my V1 mounted right below the rearview mirror. very nice hidden design

I installed the "Parking mode cable" for my Fitcamx. Looks better with the adapter removed. Connected the power cables to the fuse box.

So with this setup it continuously records? How long before it starts recording over previous footage?

Depends on your sim card size. I have the 128G. The website only says it'll record over the old videos when the sim card gets full. If you have something recorded, most people will download it right away. Like I did traveling from Texas back to Florida. Some guy hit me and I was able to download the video to my cell phone. Then I had to cut it down some to be able to email it to my insurance company and the other guys insurance company.

Thanks. I get that, and I have a 128 card as well. What I am more wondering is how many hours of video before it start to overwrite itself, ie. in sentry mode do you get 1 day worth of video or 4 days?

I just checked my video's still on my sim card and it goes back from today (3/17/24) to 3/5/24. So that's two weeks of video's.
Hopefully this helps you.

You could also email with any questions.

Thanks. With your continuous recording while parked that is a lot more than I would have guessed

I went garmin mini 2, the quality is pretty good. I was due to the size for me, you can’t see it. Just reviewed footage, the picture is perfectly fine, you can easily make out license plates!

For those with rear cams, how are you running the wire?

There isn't continuous recording at all with the parking mode cable added. I emailed Fitcamx and here's the reply I received.

Dear,
The parking mode means that the dash camera will start to records while a collision happens. Not continuous video recording

1. Connecting the fuse box, there will be a parking mode function.
2. The parking mode can be turned on and off in the APP.
3. Parking mode is vibration sensing and will not be recorded 24/7.
4. Parking mode will not drain the battery, but if you do not drive for a long time, it is recommended to turn off the parking mode on App settings.

Thanks for all the info. I have been convinced to hardwire mine now too. Just ordered the wiring harness for it.

I thought I'd follow up on mine. After I disabled the start up noises, it's been out-of-sight, out-of-mind. I can't see it behind the rear view, and hopefully I'll never have to pull footage from it.

It is seriously a pain the ass to pair the camera with the iPhone app because the Apple Car Play keeps over-riding the WiFI connection. I have to figure out how to turn off car play in the truck before pairing with the VOIFO camera app.

Go into your phone settings, search "carplay", select your vehicle under My Cars, and turn off CarPlay. Then you can connect to the dashcam's wifi and pull your footage. After you are done you can turn on CarPlay again

I use Android Auto, but it has to be the same because another way I have been playing with is in the trucks settings. If I hit "Phone List" in the top right of the screen, I have 3 options (2 techically), A phone icon, music icon, and android auto icon. If I choose either the phone or music icon, it turns off android auto.

This is what I do for my Viofo connection - toggle Android Auto off on the Phone List

Thanks, I'll try that next time.
