Blue Cruise Issues Maybe Radar Related

I have the trial of Blue Cruise going. Really like it for my long commutes.

I noticed an issue and I’m trying to isolate the cause.

On roads I’ve travelled before and Blue Cruise has worked, now it won’t let me go totally hands free. I have lane departure enabled and that works. The adaptive cruise control/speed works. However I don’t get the blue steering wheel icon consistently and it requires I keep my hands on the wheel. Sometimes the blue steering wheel icon (which means you can go totally hands free) pops up for a short period of time but then it becomes greyed out and I need to keep hands on the steering wheel.

Two things were done since it worked last. An OTA update and a hard wired radar detector to the fuse box. I’m not sure anything else impacts its availability.

I assume it’s the radar but wanted to see if anyone else had issues adding accessories and it impacting Blue Cruise when tapping into the fuse box.

BTW - did not do mirror tap - the radar goes from the detector to the box.

I’ll answer my own question. Blue Cruise is flakey. Clean wiring, cameras, sensors, no sunglasses and can get it to come on more consistently - but still doesn’t do it consistently enough to not be annoyed when it drops out or asks you to grab the wheel.

One trip worked the entire way there and it was great. Maybe over time they improve it.

I’ll stick with ACC and let the trial run out.

I had blue cruise flake on me once in a place it has worked multiple times before. I pulled over and shut the truck off. After restart, it worked fine. Gonna guess it needed a reset for some reason.
