Blue Cruise

So that's the partial blue cruise for lack of better term. If you get on a mapped "blue cruise road", the screen turns blue and changes. The left shows a steering wheel and the words hands free. You can literally go long stretches without touching the steering wheel. It watches your eyes and alerts if you quit watching the road.

The partial blue cruise, is on roads that aren't blue cruise mapped I believe. I've used it on rural highways, works well as long as the road lines are clear to see, you have to keep a hand on the wheel though. Because it will kicks out of it if it looses lines or can hunt for lines to follow.

What I've learned using Blue Cruise is its how the lines are painted on the road is everything, the newer the better! Oh and if someone was half drunk painting them, your trucks going to be acting the same way!!

I really enjoy using it and glad I added it to my truck.

You driving in Sport Mode on the HWY all the way home?
I switched it to normal shortly after the video. Blue Cruise has multiple "versions" also, that was the non fully automated where it asks for your hands to be on the wheel. On a fully mapped road, it's fully hands free like in this video i took:

This option is one of the reasons (of many) I went with a Tremor F150 instead of a Superduty. My wife drives a Tesla with autopilot and we use it all the time. It's great for stop and go and long trips on open road. Does anyone know if the Blue Cruise Lite (where you have to keep hands on the wheel) works when towing a trailer? I don't think the hands free version works when towing. The internet is not super helpful with this and I'm wondering if anyone has tried.

Yes it works when towing a trailer if you have the trailer setup. At least mine does but I don't have the active I just have the assist where you have to touch the steering wheel.

Glad to see all of you guys beta testing this for me ;) I'm considering adding it to my order (no Vin# yet) but if i have to keep my hands on the wheel it seems like the adaptive cruise control that comes with the 402a package might be enough for me.

Real question, what do you do with your hands if they aren't on the wheel? put them in your lap? it seems to yell at you if you are looking a phone and not on the road.

Here it is in traffic coming out of Nashville. Pretty impressive. It will start and stop, but if you stop for an extended period you need to touch the gas to reactivate it but just tapping the gas, it will take over without doing anything else.

Main complaint so far is when the speed limit changes and I'm going let's say 70 on blue cruise, the new speed limit is 55, and it automatically starts slowing down and readjusts to 55. I wish it would just notify me, but not automatically start slowing down.

You can turn that feature off, I turned mine off.

Oh God please tell me how
It's under vehicle settings and it's the speed recognition flip it off and it won't look for the speed limit signs.

Has anyone found a detailed or interactive Blue Zone map? Ford's official Blue Cruise FAQ basically still says "coming soon", and the only one I could find on line is this one. Not super helpful for detailed trip planning.

In the Ford Pass app, unde the Map tab, any BlueCruise (BC) enabled section of road will be highlighted in Pink/Red. You can zoom in/out to check all the various areas you're interested in. I've found it to be pretty accurate so far in terms of where BC is avaliable.

Ah, good to know, thanks. I don’t have a VIN yet, so I haven’t installed the app. An interactive map on the web would be nice for trip planning, but it’s good to know that there’s a good map somewhere.

This is what it looks like in the app with the pink lines being BC.

I used it in semi heavy traffic on a 60 mile trip Sunday. The BC worked the majority of the time but you have to be prepared to take the wheel.

Issues I encountered, off ramps where you are in the right lane. Vehicle gets confused if the lines aren't drawn well and you are told to take the wheel. I haven't changed any settings and the only time I slowed was when another vehicle was in front. Once I went around, the speed would resume back to what I had it set at. On BC, the speed limit signs were not followed. We were having 40mph gusts and the truck tracked very well.

We still had a lot of snow slush laying around melting. Once the truck got very dirty from the road grime, it didn't seem to track as well but it was still working. Seemed to be more lane drift but as stated, it was WINDY! Made me wonder how dirty it would have to be before it wouldn't work.

3500 mile trip in April that will really test this out.

I spent 3700 miles going cross country with Blue Cruise on most of the way.
The negatives first.
Driving into the sun at sunset didn't work. I can only guess the same sun blinding me got to the sensors too.
It can come out of BC at any time so you do need to pay attention. Not necessarily a negative.
It does drop out of BC when you switch lanes. A busy interstate with a lot of semis and you do this a lot.
Will not drive itself over 80. Cruise can be set but driving mode is disabled.
Off ramps seemed to mess with it as the lane divides and it would come out of BC a lot then.
I got the feeling coming down mountain roads that it was using the brake too much. I got a whiff of break pad on one long downhill. I prefer engine breaking and avoiding the brake unless needed.

Postives
I can't say how positive I am on the additional safety this brings. The adaptive cruise control will match slower traffic speed keeping you at a safe distance. Once the traffic clears it will then go back to the set speed.
It watches you. I tried trickery and it still knew. Head straight ahead, sunglasses on but looking to the right. Warning, Keep Eyes on the Raod! comes up.
As a test with the wife watching, I closed my eyes, again warning comes up. This is with sunglasses on and head still straight ahead.
Steering wheel vibrates if you leave the lane without a turn signal.
Heavy winds, especially through the desert, and it tracked great.

I believe positives far outweigh the negative.

I just finished a new England to Texas round trip and while I don’t have blue cruise I did use a lane centering “hack” and I was blown away. Same results as you mentioned but without the eye tracking and the 80mph limit. I definitely wouldn’t leave it unattended but it was definitely a much more relaxing drive! If I had to do it again I’d get blue cruise and not have to keep my “hack” in the door pocket!

Blue Cruise is where it's at. I only have about 2200 on the clock but I would say about 1K +/- have been full on Blue Cruise (less the time I've been changing lanes).

First road trip was still on the dealer's tank of gas; 3 hours to Louisville for a Tool concert. We had a 3 car caravan headed up. I was lead. About an hour into Kentucky I called the car behind us and asked if they noticed if they noticed us driving erratic/etc. and they said no. They had no idea the damn truck was driving itself until I told them.

Since then I put it on whenever I can and my drive to work and home is 90% interstate so it's everyday. It has been raining here a lot lately and it still works well, although the "hands on wheel" message pops up a lot more in the rain.

When the road ahead is clear you can look around a little and see things you have driven by 100x and not noticed. Then the eyes on road message pops up; look up, and then enjoy the view again. Works well with sunglasses so far.

I am at heart a driver's car guy. 50% of my vehicles are manual sportscars; my wife's DD is a 400HP AMG SUV, etc. I love and mostly enjoy driving any vehicle when it's enjoyable to actually "drive" a vehicle (if that makes sense.) However, IMO the daily drive to work or the 3x yearly to see the in-laws is a doo-doo drive and that's where Blue Cruise or any other equivalent system fits in the life grind.

NOTE: I don't think I have used it into the sun like above, so no comment yet on that.
NOTE 2: The 80MPH limit should be a little more "flexible"; maybe ForScan will address this?
NOTE 3: In the times my better-half was in the truck with Blue on; she has had one butt-pucker-upper per trip while in the passenger seat. This is purely anecdotal and also less than an average trip, but noteworthy nonetheless.

As a comment; I know there are software updates forthcoming that allow lane change, more Blue zones, etc. But, for a reliable system in its infancy, it is pretty awesome right now, especially in a top selling and trusted vehicle.

Just my $.02 and the cash value is less than that + YMMV but, I am digging the Blue Cruise so far...
I'm excited to see the updates.
