Bumper step

I’ve spent a lot of time looking on line and thought the hitch step was the way to go but none of them were much lower than the plate itself above the receiver. Not worth the price. I’m 75 and it is not a struggle yet but when that day comes I’ll throw my little 4’ ladder in the back.
 
I'm in the same situation with my 2023 Tremor. multiple knee surgeries and I will no longer jump off a tailgate. My 2020 Ram Offroad Model has dual exhaust nearly identical to the ford tremor (i.e. halfway into the bumper) and it came with a factory oem corner step similar to the amp bed step. I don't understand why Amp can't design something here.

Folks will say "use the tailgate step". However, if you are towing a boat, you cannot drop the tailgate and deply the center step without hitting the tongue of the trailer. A corner step is a MUST.

I can’t seem to find it again, but there is a thread that someone had added a (black) stepstool with Velcro straps to the pro access tailgate, that doesn’t interfere with operation. I actually copied the idea liking it so far, but I do not carry a lot in the bed of my truck.
 
So who has figured this out? I want a step. There are times when I want to use the full tailgate and still need to get up into the truck. Which corner mounted retractable step actually works with dual exhaust?

No such animal.
 
The $400 Ford part that's optional on the TREMOR trucks themselves absolutely works with the dual exhaust / dual exhaust outlet bumpers our trucks use. I figure there are others that do as well, but I can't confirm that.

I found this, and it even shows a pic of it mounted on a Tremor. But how on earth would this work with the tailgate down? It’s too far under the tailgate to make it useful. Needs to be on the bumper corner, outside the tail pipe.


I don’t need a step with the tailgate access door open, I can just step on the bumper by the license plate. I need a step when I want to use the actual tailgate and still get up in the bed!

It doesn't. No step really would that I've seen. The tailgate step is more useful on trucks that have the Pro Access tailgate. (I think that's what the option is called.) The built in tailgate step honestly works better, but that tailgate setup doesn't really work well if you have a trailer attached. Then again, with a trailer attached, the bumper step would allow you to step up and get things out of the bed. (I stand on my trailer hitch a lot to do the same thing.)

There in lies the problem. You aren't going to be able to do that on trucks with the dual-exhaust cut outs in the bumper.

If you didn't get the tailgate step, there isn't much you can do. There are no good solutions for our trucks without the Ford factory tailgate step or Pro Access tailgate. I'm in the same boat. I have a really basic 401a TREMOR without any of that stuff.

That’s lame! It would not be hard to design something that would still work with the full tailgate laid down.

I’m aware of the Ford one but the reason that I said no such animal is because I thought you were looking for something like this one for the left side of the bumper.

Well, yeah. I guess I am. I just still (even with the ambulance door) want the option to use my full tailgate down and still have a step to assist in getting up into bed.

Well it is. The issue is where it has to mount to support the weight of a full figured American. The exhaust is in the way on the Tremor.

Well, yes, that’s a design impediment, but one that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

Just noticed mine doesn’t have one. My dealer swears it’s an option, but I find it ridiculous if the $12,000 package that includes bed utility package, and pro access tailgate package doesn’t come with the step to help utilize those features.

I didn't get one !! No Skid guard !!
 
The tremor has dual rear exhaust to improve the departure angle and protect the exhaust pipes. I guess they could have had a single rear exhaust on one side and a step on the other.
 
In hindsight we should have stacks through the bed behind the cab

I bought the off-brand unit from Amazon. Direct rip-off of the Ford unit but only cost $125. Same brackets, same mounting, and same operation. I've had it about 6 months and no problems so far.

Same here no step. Lookiing at purchasing a retractable center step. Getting old and climbing up is hard.
