Clunk in the rear (sounds like the right side)

Well after months of trying to resolve the rear end clunking, they are replacing my leaf springs. Hope to have the truck back next week, and hoping I can feel good about my purchase finally. What can be wrong with the springs? I'll ask when I pick it up.

Hopefully it fixes your issue. After checking the torque and adding those pads, it has been quiet as a mouse for me for past 2000 miles.

Replacing the springs stopped the clunk. Never got an explanation, but am guessing it is in the way they are assembled/aligned, with something coming loose.

Couple thousand miles and the clunk has returned. Only 9000 miles on the truck now. My 2012 never made any such noise in the 170K miles I drove it. So back to the dealer it goes, when they can make an appointment with a tech who knows the issues. Should I be considering an aftermarket spring set like Deaver, or does anyone recommend another brand? I see that the issue is happening to Chevys as well.

Ford Engineering had the dealer replace the springs a second time, and this time they were told to order from a different vendor. Now the clunk is gone. Not sure if it was the springs (probably) or the install, but thankfully it is fixed. Take it in and ask them to fix it. You can demonstrate the clunk to them by driving diagonally across a stout speed bump. If they don't hear it clearly in the cab, have them ride in the bed. My dealer's shop forman riding in the bed came back and said, "this is absolutely not right for a new truck". And it got fixed finally.

I'm not sure if this is what I recently noticed on mine. Last couple of drives, when turning and starting off, there's a strange rumble. Kind of felt like a flat tire or a wheel was loose or dragging. Once underway, it goes away. Mine has 800 miles on it.

Just experienced this in my (new to me) '21 yesterday when I was slowly coming up to a traffic light (flat road) with a slight turn. It was pretty jarring! It was like I hit an invisible rock! Pulled over and checked and didn't see anything amiss. Sounds like it could be the spring frame twist issue. I'll have to see if it happens again and if so I'll bring to dealer to see if they can check it out.

Edited to add: I’ve had the truck since early November and it has close to 20k miles on it. First issue that’s popped up.

Anyone have any issues with a clunking noise in the rear when the truck rocks side to side. I get it in a turn sometimes. 2200 miles On it, I shouldn’t have any clunks going on!
Damn I was wondering this too. Gonna bring it to them with the TSB

So incase anyone is experiencing the same noise here is the possible solution that I found after some research. Contact your dealer and give them TSB21-2253. This is the service bulletin that seems to deal with the problem. I have to talk to my dealership and see if they’ve even heard of it.

I just sat down at the dealer and this TSB was superceded by one that specifically says NON-Tremor / NON-Raptor ..... He said he's still gonna look at it since it's an identical complaint. Will learn more next Tues and report back.

Just noticed this in mine now that we have wet cold weather. When it was warm it was silent. Brand new truck that sounds like a pos, ridiculous. Thinking about just trading it off rather than deal with it as it looks like some still have the issue with new springs.

My dealer updated me today and said they verified it, couldn't really find it, and have to go to Ford about it since the updated TSB specifically says NOT tremor ...

Which is ridiculous. They said they're pushing to get them to cover it bc it's the same issue ... should find out more tomorrow.

I started a case with tech support today (work at ford) and they told me it's not a known or common issue but to replace the springs if necessary.

Btw. Couldn't duplicate at the dealer, sent me packing. Of course the noise comes back once I get home...

They said they wouldn't do the TSB because it specified NON-Tremor.

Guess im taking it to a different dealer...

We had a week or so of warmer weather 40s 50s and the clunk was gone. Hit driveways all sorts of things not a peep. Now today, it's 30s and super foggy and the noise is back. Seems to only happen when there's moisture in the air.

Try washing leaf springs made it go away for me after mudding i get the clunk someitmes

so each time its done it i hit the leaf pads with some chain lube and the noise has gone away. we're in a another cold wet spell and the noise is barely there. maybe they're actually wearing in

They've changed the springs twice now. Last time clunk went away. Now the clunk is back. Pads between springs look new. Tried lubricating with fluid film no change. Tried power washing springs and the shackles clean with pressure washer shooting soapy water with no change. Took to the dealer who said they would call Ford, that was 3 weeks ago now and when I called they said they have not heard back.

No expert but sounds like your dealer is chasing there tail. Between factory springs and 2 replacement your on your 3rd set. Perhaps they should look elsewhere??? Just asking
I’ve heard some tailgate steps mimic a clunk and need replacement, truck bed was never torqued down and loose.
Just me but at this point I would buy my own springs and move on.
Good luck!
