F150 Phone Mount

See previous writeup on install. This set up is a little pricey but well worth. Wiring not that bad at all.

How difficult is it to get power up top? Pretty easy
Does this solution charge your phone well? YES
Do the magnets securely hold your phone? YES bought off amazon

Bulletpoint rubigrid and motorized phone mount. Automatically grabs and charges your phone. Buttons on either side to open the arms to unmount. USB and USB-C ports added. Grounded to metal frame on radio mount, and single power wire to fuse box. I used the fuse for the moonroof since I don't have a moon roof.
I may eventually change the USB ports to something closer to being flush mount, though I would need to drill/cut the mounting plate, but the current port doesn't bother me

I don't like any of these. While I'm driving, I prefer to text with both hands. Don't judge, I got the rest covered: one foot's available to adjust the radio and the other handles the gas, brake and some occasional steering. All bases covered and no idle, wasted appendages.

🤣

But seriously, how well do the phone mounts that you all use hold the phones while bouncing around off road? @dangerdan87, I know you said your magsafe drops the phone easily, but anyone else have that issue?
I've been using a Quad Lock QC for my phone in the 2014. Attached a 20mm ball on the back side an you're all set to use the Bullet Point or 67 Designs arms and ball clamps. Bring on the bumps.

I just installed the Tackform 3.5 arm with orange accents and am very impressed so far. 2025 with blue cruise and mounts to the air vent bezel in a way that is very secure and doesn’t block much of the vent at all.
Magnet is secure and very adjustable and doesn’t block BC sensors.

Everything is definitely subjective. I went with TacForm. Works perfect for me.

I'm curious as to why people even bother doing this anymore? When we didn't have Android Auto or Apple Car Play, I got it as you'd use your phone for GPS or to make calls hands free. With modern phones and these newer vehicles, I'm not sure what the point is. I can deal with Spotify, Waze, or whatever via the infotainment screen and choose to answer calls or make them from the steering wheel. I just toss my phone in the center console and I don't touch it until I get out of the truck.

On long trips I'll plug it in to keep it charged but that's the extent I interact with the phone directly.

Just chiming with a recommendation for the Corse Motorsport mount. I wanted something a little lower profile than the Bulletpoint type mount. I've been really happy with it so far, I got a wireless charger head from I think Lisen to use on it seems real sturdy. Haven't done much offroading with it yet but so far its stable. Super low profile also.

Totally agree!
What's the point, screen addiction?

I'm just trying to understand it at this point. I mean, I could use something like this in my 2001 Camaro SS because it has no infotainment system and I'm not about to swap some aftermarket touch screen unit into it. (Not my style.) So a phone mount for that car makes sense. When you have Android auto and Apple Car Play integration with a 12" screen, I just don't understand the need to do this.

Tackform the best that I have had and I have had many over the years
What is all that stuff?

I don’t use my phone through the infotainment. It’s not convenient having a middle man interfacing how I interact with calls and messages. I’ve got dedicated devices in my vehicles to handle Android Auto for navigation, trail maps and music. I was so hopeful for Android Automotive to make its way to our Gen of trucks but as usual FORD still stands for Fragmentation Of Research & Development. Maybe one day they can make their average of $50k vehicles be on the same page software wise.

What are you talking about? Our trucks do support Android Auto. A middle man is inconvenient? That sounds like some weird old fashioned nonsense. These are electronics. Not people. The responsiveness of the infotainment is fine for using Google Maps or Waze or whatever your into and choosing a song from a playlist.

I don't get it.

I don't get it.

Android Automotive is Googles in-built infotainment system available on the 2025 Explorer and Expedition and Lincoln Nautilus and Navigator. It’s branded by Ford as Ford Digital Experience. It was supposed to be almost fleet wide from Ford back in 2023/2024 but that never happened.

And exactly my point. The HMI is robustly intuitive and works great. But I don’t want to have my phone tied to it. I’m in and out of my truck and on and off calls a lot. I also am constantly taking pictures and videos so I want total separation. My vehicles have their own phones to run the infotainment so I can freely track data and coordinate testing scenarios. My use case is unique I just found it best to eliminate my phone from the vehicle. More specifically than that, CarPlay is not my thing. The iPhone is great at everything for day to day but that so I employ Android Auto for all my infotainment because it just functions so much better.
