What's new

New Falken Wildpeak A/T4W

I have noticed that my original Generals have gotten slightly louder as they age. Still not nearly as loud as Duratracs I have had on other vehicles though. I have just under 30,000 miles on them and they are starting to get thin. Not bad but I'll replace them by winter if not sooner. I was hoping they would last longer though.

Just a couple days in so far and a couple hundred miles but these are considerably quieter than the grabbers were IMO. I was expecting them to be rock hard based on the load E rating but they are not at all. Smooth and quiet ride. Running at 39 psi.

Time to change the shoes and upgrade over the stock Generals. Narrowed my search down to this tire or the TOYO ATIII. I'm going to keep the stock rims and go with 285/75s. I have owned a few sets of TOYO tires (MT and RT) but never tried the Wildpeaks. I live / hunt in areas with real rocky / sharp terrain, should I consider the Wildpeak RTs? I was not that impressed with the Toyo RTs but loved the MTs.

thoughts?

I have Toyo 285/75 but 17" and so far so good. I really like the Falcon atw4 but didn't want the extra weight

The Falken At4w now has the same sidewall as the RT01 so if you need the 3pms rating that would be the tire I would go with, if you don't then the RT01 I've ran the Toyo At3 and wasn't a fan on wet roads, that's just me though, lots love them, however the sidewalls of the Falkens will stand up to more abuse in the rocks. That's why they weigh more.

35x11.5 R18 are a C rated tire and only 2 LBS heavier than the stock size E rated A/T4W. Think I might jump on these, my truck is levelled so 35's shouldn't be a problem. I have about 26k miles on my stock General Grabbers and they are all about 6 or 7/32nds left. Here in CO we have a traction law that requires at least 6/32nds on tires (especially driving in the mountains) so I'm about due for tires. I don't need 35's but that's never stopped me before haha. Hopefully it won't totally kill gas mileage, It sucks already as it is but wouldn't be the end of the world.

You will lose mpg, I lost right at 1 mpg by switching to the 295/70 AT3W, for one they adhere better to the surfaces, the general tires while great in most aspects are generally a harder rubber compound and therefore have less rolling resistance. The weight also does play a significant factor in it, but if the two tires weighed the same the generals would still get better mpg.

I'm looking to get the 295/70r18 at4w to replace my MT baja boss of the same size. They are pretty comparable in actual dimensions. From what I've read the at4w is the best performing wet and quietest, compared to the baja boss and the toyo AT3s. The at3w isn't beefy enough for the look I want, or I'd go with those.

1 MPG is not bad at all, I'm surprised it isn't more of a loss. I wonder how much of a difference there will be with the 35x11.5 seeing how it is slightly less weight, slightly narrower, but only slightly taller...

AT3W no longer exists from what I'm finding, but as for beefiness I've never cut one in all the crap I put my vehicle's through.

More the look tbh, the at4w looks better on the tremor in my opinion. Subjective though

Just got the at4's about 2k miles ago, currently on a trip to BC. Lots of rain so far, no complaints there. I put just over 40k miles on the Grabbers and they were at 2/32 left. I had no problems with the Grabbers, but so far, I really like the at4's. Better looking, a little quieter. Will do some offloading in Tofino this weekend and see how they do there. So far, so good.

Decided to get rid of my OE Grabbers after just over 32,000 miles. I wanted to go with the AT4s but decided to go with Rubitreks instead. I haven't put many miles on them so far but they look very similar to the stock look Grabbers and put out about the same amount of noise which is to say they aren't loud at all. I wanted AT4s but was afraid they would be too loud after they get some mileage on them.

They aren't loud at all, I've ran the AT3W since they have been out pretty much and have never considered them loud at all, by far one of the quietest AT tires out there.

At 36k miles on my OEM grabbers I have decided wet traction is priority one.

I was passed in a double yellow by a fucking CRV in the rain. My moderate throttle effort to prevent the idiot's illegal maneuver did nothing but break traction. Then my wife-based traction control alarm was stuck in screaming mode for the rest of the drive.

The AT3s were the absolute worst tire I have ever ran on a vehicle. Any moisture on the road and you might as well be driving on an ice rink. I went away from Toyo simply due to that tire. I will say I have heard better things on the AT4s and might consider them once my Generals wear out as I like the looks of them better than Falkens.

I agree I was referencing the Falken AT3W

There’s a new Duratrac RT just released, I picked up the 295/70/18. Very aggressive sidewalls if you see it in person, reminds of ridge grapplers or even Baja boss at’s.
How do you like the duratrac rt? How’s the noise? I’m really looking at getting a set but I know noise was a big issue with the previous generation.

How do you like them? I’m in the market right now and have been thinking about getting a set but I heard the previous generation were loud. How are the new ones with noise?
