I think the ride of E rated tires will be fine if one uses the PSI rating on the door jam instead of going for higher pressures that E rated tires and others are capable of.

Exactly my experience! 36-38 are perfect. 44 after towing and before deflating are ROUGH!

Curious to your impressions on ride quality with the XTMs and being E rated. I'm coming up on needing new tires and have been driving myself crazy with over-analysis. I'd like to keep the 18 inch wheels (just like the look better than 17s) and up-size a bit with 295/70R18 being what I'll likely go with. I've been hesitant to go with E rated because of weight and ride, but the XTMs in that size appear to have a reasonable weight.

Only other tire I keep coming back to is the SL rated Nitto Recon Grappler in that size, but I keep seeing mixed reviews of their wet traction.

I have the XTMs inflated to 38psi and they are slightly firmer than the stock tires, but barely noticable. Not sure if larger size makes the tires a bit more compliant. I was worried about going with an E rated but it hasn't been an issue at all.

I was in the same boat, thinking about Recon Grappler SL rated, but seemed like there were a lot of tires that were better in the wet, dry and snow. And for only a few pounds more I could get the XTMs and the benefit of E rated durability. I don't tow, but I also had concerns about doing much off roading with an SL rated tire.

Had AT3’s and on wet roads they are horrible. I got good mileage from them and were quiet but the wet road issue is a problem for me. Here in texas on a wet road they acted like I was on ice.

A friend put them on his truck and said he hates them for the same reason. I just bought the G3 and time will tell. Actually waiting for it to rain to see if they live up to the hype. They claim on their website and per multiple tire reviews and tire rack testing to be the best for wet weather grip for their category.

The problem with Tire Rack ratings is that they are all consumer self reported. Customers are not comparing their tires head-to-head with competing tires, they are just reporting whether they like the tires they bought.

The review I looked at for the XTM had the A/T4W near the bottom for all the wet traction catigories.

I wanted a 305/70/17. Only G3 in that size is F rated (12ply). They don’t seem too much stiffer. I do like the steering response. Much tighter feeling and planted. Nitto stamps 34” dia and 12.5” wide right on this tire size. So I do hear a little more noise but I attribute that to jumping to the 12.5 wide. I like the look of the longer straight sidewalk so I had that side mounted out. Get lots of compliments on the look.

I run even lower in my Baja Bosses based on a chalk test. I know a guy who used to inflate his tires based on the sidewall max PSI.
