Oil preferences

Yes, one can always “order” it from select auto parts stores and that’s how it is here in Atlanta but they don’t stock it. I found this out back in 2016 when I purchased my Lariat and they’re usually much higher than RockAuto.

Perhaps the auto parts stores in NC have it on the shelves.

Thought I'd share this video and channel. It was very interesting if you want to geek out on oil. I have 516 miles at the moment and after seeing this I'm changing mine soon. Ordered the Motorcraft SB and filter.

I change mine at 500. Then 1000, 2000, 4000. Then go 5k intervals. At 5k Amsoil signature.

MotorCraft 5w30 Full Synthetic

I have the oil changed at 1000 miles initially, then 5000 miles and every 5000 thereafter.

MotorCraft LV in the Transfer Case

Amsoil 75w140 in the differentials

My first oil change at 5000 mi was free at the dealership, but now that I'm getting close to 10,000 mi, I'll probably do my own oil change. What type of oil do y'all use on your coyotes?

Thanks!
I have a lifetime maintenance policy with Ford, they change it every 5K miles with Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Synthetic blend.

I'm hesitant to use fully synthetic because of crystallization caused by short drives and not letting it warm up fully.

I am a lifelong Mobil 1 user but have been using the Motorcraft Full Synthetic in my current ride.
I use Motorcraft filters also.
It is just easier to get (and cheaper) where I live.

With the new 15,000km oil change intervals, I take my truck to the dealer for the full service at intervals and change it myself at the halfway point.
I started using the Motorcraft products because down here a dealer will cancel a warranty in a heartbeat, and you have no recourse.
I do something similar, like I said in my previous post, I have a lifetime maint policy with Ford. They change it every 5K miles.

I started changing my oil every 2500 miles between those oil changes.

This is a good video, I will say though that even in the break-in period (however small it is), we have oil filters for a reason. So even if there is some residual metals left in the oil after the first 1000 miles, those don't make their way back into the engine.

Unfortunately the only real way to test any of this is to compare engine reliability between two identical engines that have undergone the same usage over 100K+ miles, open up the engine and inspect wear on cam lobes, rocker arms / bearings, and cylinder walls.

I'm not going to loose sleep over it. I beat on my truck the second I got it, and didn't change the oil until the 5K interval. Guess we'll see what happens.

Check out more of his videos. He’s got some good information to see

I run anything full synthetic that meets Ford spec on the bottle. I do change every 5k like others have said.

Just watched 1-2 others. This guy is on point, and I agree with him.

The bottom line is: Changing your oil at 500-1000 if the engine is brand new can’t hurt. Vehicle manufacturers have already taken into account the initial wear of a new engine, so the initial 5K recommended interval was thought out to account for this.

Millions of others (including some of you) have done what I did (or what I didn’t do) and they will make it to 200K. If I can get to that mileage I’ll be happy.

Did you catch who he is yet? If you ever were a NASCAR fan you’ll remember his dad from the 80’s. One of the best racing names ever. Lake Speed 😁

5.0 2024. For the past 7-8 yrs I've had all mine done at the dealer simply because my schedule doesn't really work out for doing it plus the dealer uses their own recommended oil and filter and can't use changing it myself as an excuse..plus I don't have to deal with mess (God I'm gettin old LoL) But for +/- $100 I get oil and filter and tire rotation and someone else's eyes on a inspection.... I grew up doing it myself with my dad saying "every 3000 miles" and back then that was true especially for the high performance engines we built then. Nowadays I do mine at 4k to 4.5k religiously motorcraft sae 5w-30 api gf-6a is what was on my receipt from Ford last week I believe it's full syn or syn blend.

I ran across the motor oil geek about a year ago and have been following his videos, and yea I know who his dad is! Showing my age I guess, so what I’m getting too is that I’m a die hard Mobil 1 oil user until recently I started looking into Napa full synthetic oil, which I can get for less than 5$ a quart, needless to say I was skeptical about using it until I saw the motor oil geek video where he reviewed the Napa brand and he highly recommended it!! So I used it when I changed the oil in my wife’s Explorer! But I’m still not sure about using it in my F150 tremor 3.5L ecoboost, I’ve got 6 quarts of Mobil 1 on the shelf for my next oil change coming up at the 5000k mark!
Will see!! Old habits are hard to break!!!

Very cool!

My take on off brand oil: if you value your warranty, and hope to be on good terms with your local dealer (when the time comes), having a record of every oil change been done at the correct interval, with the OEM recommended oil, lends itself to proper ownership.

If the dealer is trying to decide whether something out of warranty should be fixed on their dime, having this record shows them you are impartial to the [issues] you might need fixed.

I’ve walked away twice now with heavy mechanical issues on my last truck having been fixed out of warranty at Ford’s expense because i showed I took care of my vehicle.

Don’t give them any exuse.
