I did a lot of research and was torn between top end and cheapie lights. I talked to several friends (all who have plenty of $) who had added lights over the years. Almost everyone told me it’s not worth going with the mid-level lights because they don’t add much additional lighting unless you’re looking for the ability to light different areas that aren’t lit by your headlights (such as side, Fog lights, etc.). They had bought them $300-$500 and weren’t impressed. They also told me that the cheapo lights don’t last overtime and the light output is nowhere near as good as the higher end lights. Of course, if cost is the primary driver, and best lighting isn’t important, the Cheapos are probably for you.
I gotta tell you though the other member who recommended the XL 80s wasn’t BSing. These lights are probably 10 times brighter than using the 402 a Brights. After I installed them, I took my 21-year-old daughter for a quick ride and didn’t tell her I installed the lights. When I flipped them on my daughter exclaimed “oh my God that’s ridiculous. Why would anyone ever need lights this bright“
Also- after reading about the vibrating cheap brackets that only use one anchoring bolt, I decided to buy the more expensive namebrand brackets. The ones I bought were from 4X4 LEDs and they are rock solid and do not vibrate at any speed. As they say YMMV
These are my first auxiliary lights so I’m still a newbie – just a guy who did a ton of research and I’m very happy with my selection.
