I just did my first trip with my RTT, hard shell made by Wildland. Model is called Desert Cruiser 140, probably one of the largest tents available. Biggest concern for me other than comfort was to have a quick to set up tent with a hard shell, I drive lot of narrow logging and mountain roads where branches might snag or damage a soft shell tent.
My rack is pretty sturdy as well, RCI 18”, the mounting system that came with the tent held up great and didn’t move at all. The tent quality is great and takes less than 5 min to set up.
Only thing with my tent that I will be upgrading, not so much for myself, but for the wife will be adding some more padding or an inflatable pad to the tent. Felt fine for me but the wife wanted more padding. Our tent is the same size as a queen size bed some any camping air mattress of that size will fit or you can get the one the brand sells for the tent.
I like the easy way to set up, size, quality and little things like a built in light inside the tent that provides great visibility even when pitch dark outside and the shoe bags are waterproof with a mesh material at the bottom so they won’t hold water, mud or rocks from your shoes. Overall super happy with my choice.
One down side I can see might be the size, definitely not a one man job and my wife being 5’ doesn’t really help haha. Not tall myself either at 5,9” but I did built a simple hoist system to install it and store it.
