SPC Ball Joint Failure

Just got off the phone with icon. Neither arm will fit with factory wheels. You’ll need at least a .25” spacer. We have run 6mm hub centric spacers without issue on my person build and lots of others. If yall want the link let me know!

For those of you interested in making the switch to icon tubular or billet arms I am happy to aid in the order process. I will be discounting every unit sold to forum members.

Spacers suck. Tell Icon to make an arm that fits w/ the OE wheel and a 295 tire. Has anyone received feedback from SPC?

@SpaceWhiteF150 my man! 💪

Now we need @halo.f150 to tell us what the limitations of the OE UCA is on their Stage 1 and other kits. I would think UCA limitation is at full droop, either UCA contacting coil spring or maxing out the OEM UBJ. Full droop is the same regardless of how you tune your preload (and therefore ride height). Caster, however, is dependent on ride height. I wonder if OEM caster specs are achievable at 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5" of lift. If @Aliass24 is lifted 2.25" and has OE caster specs then that's a good indication.

Interesting, the post I linked above was @metallikatz3 confirming tubular UCA with stock wheels/tires and intend to move up to 285/75 tire. Maybe he can also share how that's going?

it sounds like Icon is not an option for those of us who want to run OEM wheels without a spacer. just like Mr. @Moe7 my Halo Stage 1 Kit with SPCs has been sitting in a box for a while until I have the free time to install it. NOW considering keeping the OE UCA. As for Caster, the OEM Tremor spec is 4.5 deg (L) 4.7 deg (R), both are +/- 1.0 deg. Does anyone have OEM UCA with Halo Stage 1 and an alignment report to confirm what kind of caster can be achieved with the OEM arms? It will depend on how much lift you have too, so that’s an important parameter to include.
Not Halo but the report I have from getting my Eibach kit installed with stock UCA and 2” lift is 4.7L, 4.6R.

I have the Icon Billet Arms and 35x11.50s with a +25 Offset Method Wheel. Icon suspension included that is lifted about 2 1/2". It also has, if I remember correctly, 5* of Castor up front.

My truck has been jumped and bounced around pretty good. No extreme rock crawling, however. I've had no issues with this set up.

What is wheel width? Curious to know the backspace as you'd think that and tire width are the critcal pieces for understanding clearance of the UCA when comparing accepted sizes?

I’m just asking this because I really don’t know but are the OEM Raptor UCA’s different or are they the same as the TREMOR.

Wheels are 17x8.5"

Wheels are 17x8.5"
Same wheels as me then. Well that is about 5.7" backspace which Icon says will not fit either of their UCAs. Gotta love the inconsistencies.

FYI - The newer SPC UCAs now come with the sealed ball joints...part numbers have changed, UCA PN#35106 that fits our trucks & uses the sealed unit, has superseded PN#25685.

part numbers are same between our trucks, the raptors (even R), and the police (looks like all are the same but i didnt check all trims)

kinda weird tbh. i figured the raptor would at least be diff

@MCO suggested earlier in this post that the newer, sealed, SPC Joint is still problematic. @MCO could you expand on this?

I reached out to SPC and got some clarification; basically in line with the first post in the following thread:

In short, there are 3 versions, the greaseable with the zerk (discontinued in '23), the same version without a zerk, and a new (black) version that is redesigned (w/polymer race as noted by @TremorKaos). The 25685 arms were one of the later kits to get the redesigned ball joints, and my late '24 kit still even has the greaseables.

I've been searching around and haven't seen any real issues with the redesigned version, but also curious what others may have seen/heard.

EDIT: SPC was very helpful in answering my questions. They said to offer up this address if anyone has any questions/concerns, instead of going through their online form: [email protected]

I'm sure some will say I'm being unfair but I too just bought the UCAs late last year and have the greasable joints. The only question I'd have is when are you sending the latest free of charge. About $220 to avoid failure on a critical part that I bought less than a year ago, only to find out it's been redesigned twice already? What a joke.

I don't disagree.. I think a big part of it is old stock floating around.

I am in an OK position since mine are new and I can flip them cover most of the replacement cost ($180 via Autozone).
