What's new

Tremor nearly crashed itself after shutting down on snowy climb today

Those that live in snow in what truck mode would you attempt this type of hill ascent?
4x4 low
4x4 auto
Snow Mode
Slippery Mode

Would you deflate your tire PSI down? ( I run at 30 all around )

For OP in what mode was the vehicle?

Deep Snow and 4 LOW? RPMs were pretty high. I'm an air guy - I'd have aired down, too.

Weird shit, man. Glad you and the truck exited that without injury.

It was in "Deep sand/Snow" mode, which was 4hi. If I ever did it again, I'd like to try it rock crawl mode (4lo).

I was working (home inspector) so I didn't have time to goof around, I was just trying to get my truck closer to the house so I didn't have to haul tools and ladders up the hill.

Climbing a very steep driveway with a foot of snow. Mode was "deep snow", rear locker engaged, I have a front limited slip. I was making slow but positive progress at 4-5k rpms all the way to the top. As soon as I was about to level out- the truck shuts down, throws itself into park, and I go sliding at high speed all the way down the hill with no brakes or steering. Even the dash cam quit when the engine stalled.

Why in the hell would the truck shut down like that and go into park? Could have totaled the truck or even killed me.

Here's the dash cam feed.
Well that was terrifying for sure!! Wild, glad you are good.

Not sure if this was mentioned previously but I saw a video of a Raptor ranger that did the exact same thing in snow and driver was only a couple feet from going off steep ledge of road. It was a snow off-road review of raptor and the driver was so freaked out about it he was going to reach out to ford and ask why this would happen and that someone is going to get hurt or killed by this.
I thought this was a fluke until seeing your post too.

Bloody hell, I think a lot of us would have driven straight to a Chevy dealer after that experience...

I would think this would be logged - do you have Forscan?

I do. How would I pull that? And how long is the history in the ECM?

When you connect it will do a scan, but there's a yellow triangle "DTC", that should have any stored codes.
I don't think a code due to the engine being turned off by computer would go away until cleared. I don't think many codes go away without being cleared, but I don't consider myself an expert.

I pulled the DTC's. I had a couple ABS ones from the 17th and 20th, but not from the day of the event. Also another related to the back up auto braking, but I think that's from me messing with the for scan coding trying to shut that off from a while ago. I reset DTC's and will see if anything else pops up down the road.
