I wanted to open up this thread to discuss opinions on tire brands for specific uses. Effectively if we could gather a consensus on the best mall crawler, towing, AT and advanced off road in a single location. it may help those who are looking for recommendations for their use.
I'll keep a running tally on this post specific to the above categories (or more if there is enough interest.
Mall Crawling (Taking that adventure to wherever you can) - comfort, pavement (wet, dry and snow) traction, quiet, long tread life, reduced rolling resistance (MPG), moderate towing (up to 8000 pounds regularly), some light off roading with no expected tire hazards.
stock/OE SL rated General Grabber ATx - very good off road traction, thin sidewalls, quiet on road, excellent wet and snow road traction - unknown mileage
Towing (From road warrior to load warrior) - Durability, Traction (pavement wet, dry, snow 3 peaks rated), comfort/quiet, treadwear, MPG
All Terrain (The do-all, be-all tire that can) - Traction on road (wet dry and 3 peaks rated), off road (moderate off roading, fire roads, mud, sand, smaller rocks, hard pack snow), quiet, towing, D rating or above sidewalls, tread wear and MPG
Toyo Open Country III - good off road traction, moderate to strong sidewalls, noticeable noise on road, moderate wet and snow traction - expect 40,000+ miles
WILDPEAK A/T3W -
Nitto Terra Grapler G2 -
Advanced off road (Because who would want to drive around with these on the street, on purpose) - off road traction (wet, dry, sand, clay, rocks, snow), strong sidewalls and minimum D rated - noise, MPG, towing, tread life all secondary - These may not be the best daily driver treads
Cooper Discovery STT Pro - great off road rock/mud/sand traction, very tough, moderately noisy on road, medium wet and snow traction - expect 40,000 miles
Grabber X3 - https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/2001-general-grabber-x3-8000-miles-rocks-roadways-sand-snow/
GEOLANDAR M/T G003 - These have had consistently good reviews (F rated available)
