Tire Talk

If you don't care about tying in the additional Goodyear discounts, Discount Tire always matches the deal. It took about 2 weeks to get my last tire order in.
Thanks for that. I'll probably pick up my road set from them. These grabbers have great traction and are quiet but soft as puppy mud. I just got the Geolandar G003 in for test fitment. It'll take a few days to get that mounted but otherwise this thing looks good.

on my current f150 i have the Bridgestone revo at3
snow/ice 4/5
mud 2/5
rocks no idea
highway 5/5
They are pretty street tire looking for for a decent comparison to stock i am impressed. Definitely not an off road tire, but the will do a lot of work
I had the baja bosses on my f250 only was able to put 3k on them before i took advantage of the market. I will say this. Those were the best road manners i have ever had in an at tire even on the 3/4 ton. This is what i think i am going to run on my tremor when it arrives.
I had ridge grapplers and well i put them in there with the look cool. They were awful in the snow and wet.

I've had Ridge Grapplers before and concur with your statement. Hated them so much I got rid of them before being at 50% of remaining life.

Hi y’all, throwing my hat in the ring as I have run about every tire brand in this thread and have to at say I think the Nitto Ridge Grapplers are the best overall for life/wear, looks, and performance. Though I live in TX so can’t comment on the negatives discussed in snow and I do agree slip more in rain than the BFG KO. They are fantastic in sand and dirt/mud, not sure on rocks as never crawled anything more than some curbs at the mall 😀

I have had them on last 2 trucks and got 45k miles out of last set on a 3/4 ton diesel. Still had decent tread when traded truck in too.

For my Tremor, I’m getting these Yoko Geolander MT picked up yesterday and having installed next week after truck gets RC coilovers to level 2.5”. Here’s some pics before level and tires next to stock setup.

In person these look amazing, and online reviews claim low road noice (for a MT that is) so I’ll post a review after a few miles on them. Thanks and good luck tire shopping, it def should qualify as an addiction!

I talked with my Dealer and they will swap out for any tire I want. He said not a big deal. I want an “E” rated tire. The dilemma is what one. Currently going with the same general grabber but “E” rated.
I’d would appreciate advice on a clear better option.

What's the use case? For me, I would (and did) go with G003 but that's because I use them off road and need a high level of traction. For an AT, there are a bunch of options/opinions including the e rated general. Other than the weight/load rating, the tires are great for normal pavement and dirt roads. But again, soooo many opinions

Took the words out of my mouth. Really depends on what environment you'll be using them in and if things like noise vs traction matter to you. I prefer the Duratracs for snow/ice, and general off-road capabilities. They can be louder than most AT's, but are more aggressive without going full MT. MTs traditionally don't do as well in the snow/ice either because of less siping. Duratracs also have thinner sidewalls than some other tires, so if in extremely rocky terrain, might not be a good fit. That said, I like the sidewall flex they provide when aired down and are lighter than a lot of competitors.

@Tremhunter - Long story short....it depends on your individual needs. Might be worth putting together a pro/con list of the factors that are most important to you.

Dealer can’t find the general grabber e rated tire I wanted. I’m looking now at Micky Thompson Baja A/T Boss . Thoughts?

I just went with bfg ko2’s 35x12.5 on oem wheels. So far so good..

The Mickey Thompson is a very good tire, only issue I've seen in reviews is sometimes they can be hard to balance.
My favorite go to tire at the moment is the Falken wildpeak at3w, they aren't as expensive, very similar tread pattern to the MT boss's and I can confirm they wear well and go great in snow and wet roads, I went through 2 sets on my last truck around 65-69k each set.

I’m still going to get some life I think out of the factory tires, but when I am ready to replace the factory I would like to try to put 35s on. Are most people having any problems with 35’s on without any modifications. I have a 2inch level on the front.

I look at tires the way some people look at 4wd. When you need it you really need it. I need a proper tire for the few times a year I’m on crazy mountain trails ,pulling a heaving fishing boat fully loaded across thousands of miles to Canada and driving through Nebraska corn fields a few weeks in the fall. My dealer continues to ask what’s my “primary” use. The real question is “whats your intended abuse”

I agree 100% on that, brakes and tires are the most important piece of the vehicle, they are what keeps the vehicle safe for my family. Sadly that's why I went away from BFG KO's I understand with the latest update they have changed the compound some but I still hear the same comments that after about 25-30k they start getting slippery on wet roads. I will say that both the grabbers and the Falken at3w do not, that's why both of those have been my go to tire for some time, I tried the open country AT 2 and the traction off road just wasn't there for me, the at3w has been the tire that I've been most impressed with, it works in everything I've thrown at it, snow, ice, mud- just spin the tires a little faster to clean out, grass, wet roads, and rocks. They were easily balanced, not noisy, and rode exceptionally well.

My biggest complaint about the Toyo AT2's or 3's are once you go off roading, like real off roading. They chunk up and then the tire starts coming apart and cupping like crazy. Toyo did pro rate them for me, but its not enough. The RT's don't do this but have terrible snow and rain traction. I had to put my truck in four wheel drive and lock the rear diff to pull by boat in and out of the water on concrete ramps. Never had to do that with any other tire. The Toyo MT is the best A/T tire Toyo makes IMO.

I really like the Toyo AT3 for what I do. I’ve never had them in deep mud though. They are very good on winter roads and driving through corn and bean stubble. 100% agree about the RT. They are a sweet looking tire but they are really bad on wet pavement. I’ve had the MT and I do really like that tire but it’s just slightly too aggressive for daily driving 30k/year for me.

If your worried about mpg then weight matters, otherwise it really doesn't play that big of a role. If you tow then the E rated tires are your best bet but they weigh on average 12-15 lbs more per tire, so your mpg will take a hit. That's just an example.
I had a set of BFG KO2's on my Tundra. The tire did wear well, but (as noted) after 40K miles, I did note the slipping and spinning issue in wet.

Thanks for mentioning the E rated tires. That is important for me. I was not as concerned about the extra weight per tire, BUT they did ride firmer on highway - that might be a drawback for some owners.

I am looking at the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W.

I'm a big believer in having 2 sets of tires. An AT for towing and daily use and at least a real MT for my trips. So far, my G003s have been fantastic so I'll likely stick with them until they prove otherwise.i may even like these better than the STT pros.

For ATs, I'm considering with going a bit more agressive than I have traditionally. I liked my toyos until about 20k miles when they became slicker than owl crap. I think I'm leaning towards the atw3 or the e rated grabbers for my standard use tire. The Grabber pattern is a bit annoying with shooting gravel at the underside of the truck but the traction is very good.

I. Looking forward to more of these reviews to see what people think about different tires

The at3w doesn't pick up and sling as much gravel as the grabbers do, that is the one of plus, they both look good but I think the grabber just has a slightly more aggressive look, I will say when it comes to towing the at3w works great, I recommended them to a buddy who has a 350 and he swears by them now. He uses it to pull backhoes, skid steers, and other construction related stuff. The current set he has around 45k on.

So, I know it has been said that the K02's get slick...but there is a killer deal I can get one a set. Are they worth getting if they're cheaper or nah?

It's your call they seem to be good tires for the first 30-40k after that the seem to get slick on wet roads, if it's a killer deal and you live in a less rainy environment go for it.
