Are we doing a catch can or no?

I consider myself reasonably intelligent but I just can't convince myself that I know more than engineers who have been working this same engine for nearly 20 years.

It seems that if it were important, they would add the catch can with a one-way valve to empty back into the system when the engine was off. Basically covering all bases. Or, build the engine with tighter rings.
It’s not about what the engineers wanted but what their solutions are to improve fuel mileage based on political regulations.

If our engines were only DI I would get one from day one, but since we also have port injection that inherently cleans the gunk out…I’m not in a rush.

Was absolutely needed on direct injection Ecoboost but anyone putting one on a 2018+ probably doesn’t understand the way their engine works. But as you suggested, peace of mind and can’t hurt anything but your wallet.
I’d rather not burn the oil but catch it, if possible.

I had idling issues with the 3.5 EB in my wife's 2016 Expedition when it had around 60,000 miles. The dealer said the intake was dirty and ended up charging me a lot of $ to remove the manifold and clean it out. Because of this experience, I bought a JLT catch can for my Tremor and plan to install it on day 1. I also plan to keep this truck for awhile.

@RotorHead695 I just finished my approximate build cost breakdown and the two things you've recommended (and I'm buying) are more than the rest of my build (sliders, tires, wheels, winch mount, intercooler relocation, bedrug) with the exception of suspension.

Thanks for the recommendation on ESP
Can you link your winch mount? I have a fairly new 10K winch I plan to pull off the Tacoma before I sell it.

Nothing confirmed for out trucks, yet. I have emails to both swarfworks and Rough Country

Darn. I have looked and didn’t see one either.

I'm new to halfton's so here me out, why can't you just route the hose down towards the ground and leave it alone (obviously you would plug the air intake hole)? this is pretty common in diesel land i can't figure out why it wouldn't work here.

That’s what they used to do but it smells and pollutes
