Bed storage/Tonneau Cover

It does fit under. Doesn't stick out far, it's just tight width wise, it'll rub the wheel wells but I have the bed liner so idc. I also have the bed mat and a gorilla liner under the roam case. It can be easily wiggled out to access it.
I am going this route as I already have a few of these Roam boxes. You need to do a write up with this bed set up in your build thread. Best I have seen yet. are you going to do a fridge in the bed?

Thanks!

I am not going full overland (yet) as I don't live in an area (yet) to make full use of it. In the next few years, probably.

I'll do a write up here soon.

Anyone have experience with the BakBox2.0? Seems like a good solution, assuming you're starting with a BAK product... Dealer threw me a huge bone and gave me a new BakFlip MX4, but looking at storage ideas underneath. Not a lot, just the basics for light offroad, tow strap, d-rings, hitch, shovel, hatchet, first aid...
Well after reading lots of reviews and comparing different options, I landed back where I started. Installed a BakBox 2.0 and 2hrs in, couldn't be happier.
Contrary to the reviews, when installed in the right groove this thing is rock solid. I may upgrade some of the hardware down the line for beefier screws, but for a recovery bag with straps, rings etc and a jump starter, it's perfect and does actually fold out of the way when needed. I'll keep you posted after it bounces around for a few miles!

Will that roam box fit in the back seat area with the seats folder up? Also, are they sturdy enough to turn vertical and then strap a dirt bike tire against it?
My main obstacle to a bed box and bed cover is the need to put a motorcycle in the bed.
Perfect combo would be a box that I could strap the tire against and this would also keep it far enough away from the cab to where I wouldn’t have to remove the roll up hard cover.

So @Cranbery, would you mind finding a motor bike and trying this out?!?

Lmao I don't have a dirt bike but I'd say you can definitely turn it up and strap it to the cleats long ways to fit a motorcycle next to it, no problem.

I would assume it fits in the cab under the back seat, it definitely fits with the seats folded up. The dimensions are on the website, you can just measure (i would but I have the factory storage and it's full currently so I'd rather not empty it all out to fold it down).

It's pricey, but Id highly recommend it. Very well built.

Thanks. I was thinking of actually just turning the box up 90 degrees so it is still running side to side and putting the motorcycle tire against it. I would think it would work but not sure how sturdy those boxes are. Can you stand on that box without it flexing much?

Yeah it's a pretty sturdy box.

You guys think I can fit:

Two bikes, side by side, snug on one side, with a tailgate bed pad (wheels over the tailgate), and then next to that two 10' kayaks on their side, so skinny way, up inclined over the tailgate? Strapped down obviously. The kayaks are 15" tall so they'd take like 30" side by side, plus the bikes.

I have a retrax pro XR installed.

Taking a trip to NC in September and would like to take our two gravel bikes and two kayaks. Trying to avoid spending a few grand on a roof rack and all that.

can't see why not worst case grab a bike rack that meets your commitment level to biking.

I need to apply this to my purchasing habits in general.

My current process is:

- Have a need for a product
- Find cheapest way/product to satisfy the need
- through research, find similar product made by reputable company with a few bells and whistles
- see how cool reputable company is and all the cool add ons you can get for the product
- in order to utilize reputable, cool product and all the add-ons, need to upgrade current host product
- Buy a new truck and don’t get original product.

I had a BakFlip FiberMax on my previous F-150 and it served well. After going back and forth between the Diamondback, a Retrax, and a BakFlip, I ordered an MX4 this week along with the BakBox. While it hasn't arrived yet, here are what I see as the pros and cons.
Pros: Folds up against the front of the bed if needed. Fits underneath the tonneau cover.
Cons: Must open the tonneau cover to access. Not as sturdy as a purpose-built storage box.

I found that if you call BakFlip you'll get a better price than just ordering online. And their product is less expensive than the Ford version available from the dealer.

If you plan on putting a rack on the bed, the Retrax is the way to do.

We’ve done the swing case. Got it with FordPass points and easy to install. I keep all emergency items in there and We cycle a tote depending on weekend adventure

I like that setup! Does it get in the way of the drain tubes at all?

It slightly rubs them, but nothing major. I haven't had in water in the bed, seem to drain fine.

Thanks for the info, I'm putting in a Bedrug liner. I'll measure after install to make it will fit before ordering.
Did you go with the roam case and the bedrug? Looking to do same thing but wasn’t sure if it fit for you.

How do you like it so far? Was thinking of getting my brother one for his Silverado for his birthday. I'm guessing he would also prefer padsenger side since driver's side covers the outlet.

I looked at a bunch of tonneau covers, everything from the BakFlip (had the FiberMax on my 2014) to a GoFast camper. Ended up with a BakFlip MX4 (which they recommended with the electric tailgate) and a BakBox. Both easy to install. I was disappointed that the BakBox does not fit up against the front of the box, but that is so it will fold up; but you still lose about 4-6" of useful length. I found when I travelled, my folding chairs fit nicely under the box, but that also means they are hard to get to. Having to fold up the entire tonneau cover to access the box is also an annoyance, but you get used to it. I keep "stuff" in the box, a shovel, axe, saw, jumper cables, tow strap, etc., not things I use frequently. It is somewhat of a bother when you want to use the bed for hauling yard waste as all the stuff in the box has to be removed to fold it out of the way. Of course with a DiamondBack, you'd have to remove the entire cover to haul yard waste. The camera that shows the Bed of the truck is useful when the BakFlip is folded against the rear window.

What is the amount of space under the canister? Would it fit a 12 inch rigid toolbox?

Works great and fits a lot of stuff. We’ve had it in a few of our trucks and love it
