Center Console Lid Not Staying up

Does anyone know if the non-work surface lid stays open? I really hate trying to hold up the lid along with opening the console safe too.
Mine stays open on my 2023 Tremor.

Well I finally watched the "nickel trick" and it looks do-able. I thought (before watching) folks were using nickels to hold up the lid like a door stop. They're just increasing the spring tension. I'm gonna try that first before buying a new lid.

It does with the nickel trick. You may need more than 1 or 2 nickels though. I used 2 per spring and it’s ok but could use more.

I’d just use needle nose pliers to putt the spring clip open instead of using a screw driver. Much easier.

Update after doing this trick a few days ago: I can say that It stays up better using two nickels per spring. More would be better. At least it’s not falling down every time I open it.

I consider myself pretty handy but I could not get a screwdriver under the tail of either spring to get a nickel in there. They are sooo tight. I gouged up the plastic pretty good then gave up and slapped the trim panel back in place.

I messed with it for about 15 minutes and gave up (for now) as well. I think my problem was both the pliers and screwdriver that I had at the moment were too thick to fit under the spring where it starts to coil.

Hi DocProc,
You don't actually need to fit the pliers under the spring. I just grabbed the spring tab with the pliers and pulled outwards (toward the front of the vehicle). I had messed with the screwdriver method for a few minutes and that was a pain. This worked very easily, so hopefully it will for you as well. It may need to be needle nose or a multitool, something narrow that can grab closer to the tip of that spring tab. Please excuse the crudeness of the drawings, I'm not near my truck right now...

I have the non work surface and it definitely falls down. I thought it was just gravity because it’s a heavier/thick lid and the rake of the truck haha. I’ll have to check out the nickel trick.

If your center console lid isn't staying up, it might be due to a worn-out hinge or latch mechanism. Check for any loose screws or broken parts that need replacing. You could try tightening any visible screws or using adhesive for a temporary fix, but for a long-term solution, consider replacing the faulty components.

I just use the lid of my console vault to prop it open. But may have to do the nickel trick at some point for sh*ts and giggles. And LOL at the drawings above.

Hahaha! Thanks. I saw a video of some guy doing this trick, but he basically took the whole console apart, which is totally unnecessary. You may have to loosen the console vault (big name for a few pieces of sheet metal that don't even form a full box...) to get to the springs though.
