What's new

Diode dynamics hitch light

To clarify, my understanding from emailing DD is that the issues occur with the combination of:
C1R
+
Tow Technology on the truck

The “R” has the feature of blinking upon braking.

If you didn’t get the R, you should be fine. If you got the R, you can:
- deal with errors
- get a harness that basically makes it a non-R
- wait for new harness to fix errors and retain blinking upon braking
You are mostly correct, it's not just the blinking, it will not function as a break light at all without the new harness; just a running and reverse light. I was just updating the thread because some of us on the forum have been working with diode and waiting many months for this. I am not sure if everyone will see the email and just wanted to get the info out. We were given a temp. harnesses for the time being.

fixed - thanks!

Got my new wiring harness in yesterday and it seems to do the trick!
They pick up the reverse signal form the tail lights now instead of the 7-pin connector. Everything is still plug and play

They sent me 4 different wiring harnesses to go to the taillights. So depending on which tail light you have, you'll use a different harness

I got mine in the other day as well. I saw it comes with like 5 different harnesses, so I haven’t taken the time yet to install it. I assume I just need the 7 pin harness and then one of the others that fits my taillights?

Yep, you would be correct. One goes on the tail lights (it had to connect to both driver and passenger, and has an Amp connector that attaches to the trailer/ light harness. So it looks like a Y).

It's annoying to route imo just because it's tight. But not difficult by any means.

Thanks. It would have been nice if they would have updated the install instructions instead of using the same ones from before. Hopefully I can find time to do mine this weekend.

There's new installation instructions on their website.
But like @Dfris said, you just find the Ys that fit your tail lights, plug them in, route the Amp connector to near the 7-pin, and plug everything in.

I'm so glad you posted this i had no clue what all those extra connectors and wires were for..
Thought they had messed up and sent me the wrong thing

Has the error issue been resolved on these? I’m assuming so but want to double check before I order.
Yeah the new harnesses are good. Pain in the ass to install comparatively, but they solve the problem.

I assume you mean if you don’t hook in through the tow harness.
Now, unless my experience is different than others, I have to hook into the harness behind both tail lights and it meets in the middle where the light goes into the hitch. Otherwise it throws the errors.

If I had the option I would, but it gives me errors on the dashboard, which is what started all this. The replacement harness they sent that works is the one that hooks to the lights. I have no option to hook to the tow harness.

I had issues at first using the tow harness throwing all sorts of errors as described in this thread. Diode Dynamics then sent me the new harness when they made it and everything works fine now. It takes about 10 minutes to install.
So using the tow harness connector isn't an option

Basically remove the tail lights (2 bolts each) - plug in the t connectors - run the wires - plug in to the hitch.

How are yall getting the ford 7-pin harness to disconnect? I have tried pushing, pulling, and cussing it with no luck..

Is it possible to run the reverse light to a switch? For both when I want to turn it off to not blind other drivers while backing up and when want to have it on when truck is not in reverse or not even running (working on something in the dark, setting up camp, tailgating after ski day, etc)
