Ford Recalls 184,000 F-150 Driveshafts!!

If our vehicle wasn't made in one of these production runs are we good?
I'd still check to be sure. It's not too difficult (if you have a willing back). Download the pdf and it will tell you the spots to check for. Even if this is covered under warranty, I'd hate to wait for backordered parts and be without a vehicle if there was damage. ☹️

I can’t imagine all those pieces staying on in the conditions we run in over time. In a separate thread I mentioned line-X undercoating. Interested if spraying over these panels will have any type of negative affect. Surely a solid uninterrupted layer of line-x beats a patchwork of thin insulation panels.

When I can I'll go under and check.

I just looked briefly under my truck — snapped a few photos of the drive line to ID any shiny lathe looking marks. Everything looked ok — I think? I have an appointment set for Monday, January 17, 2022 at the dealership for the recall.

Got me to examine mine and here's what I found. Most of this material has a sticky backing. Near the front of the driveshaft, I had a piece already sagging, so I just pressed on material and it stuck back on pretty good.

Then I examined other places and noticed a couple of missing thingies that holds it in place. Not too worried because the whole thing feels like it's stuck on pretty good.

If you are concerned, I would just crawl underneath and make sure everything is tidy. I ended up pressing on everything while I was down there to make sure it stuck on well. If I get the recall notice I will mention the missing holders but I think most of our Tremors are in the clear. Here's the last angle showing clearance from driveshaft.

I found the same. Nothing really sagging but did notice those 2 Fasteners seem to be missing on the back end of the heatshield / fabric shield. There is a frame cross member that would catch the shield if it did sag back there but I would feel better if those Fasteners were there instead of just relying on the sticky stuff to hold the rear up. I wonder if Ford just forgot to add them? Seems like there should be 2 there. I wonder if Ford will add these for the recall or better for me just to buy the parts and add myself. Don't want to pay for them but shouldn't be that much. After adding those parts, it looks like the shields should be good.

Yep, they have clear instructions on the recall where to put each fastener, essentially each corner of the insulation. I think the 2 empty fasteners were on purpose.

Has anyone heard a timeline on when the parts will be made available to satisfy the recall work? I just bought a tremor and can’t take delivery of it until the work is done by the dealership.

They are dragging their feet most likely. No parts are necessary since all they have to do is fasten the insulation. Unless they don't have a drill and rivet gun, it should be an in-and-out job.

Thanks for the response, I reached out to the dealership and asked them the specifics of what they are waiting on. I will reply with the feedback I get.

I’ve scheduled an appointment for Monday morning (2/10/22) at my local dealer. They want to take a look before they give me any answers. I guess I’m their first response to this recall.

Same situation, was told they are waiting on washers from Ford. Apparently it needs to be tracked with VIN.

I was told they are waiting on rivets, that are specifically for this recall to come in. I wasn’t given any kind of a timeframe.

Ok, that makes sense since it has to be a specific size I bet. As for washers, glad they are using Ford OEM. I mean, those AutoZone ones just wouldn't cut it 😆

I went to Ford dealership to try and get some Fasteners for the rear end heatshield that looks like there were missing the 2 for the time being. They didn't have those rivets that were on the recall notice but he showed me some other Fasteners he had. He gave me 4 of them free. Both fit perfect but I used the bigger ones and cut them in half due to the hole being on the shallow side. I attached pics. I am still going to take into dealership for the recall. I am assuming they have a better more secure way. Maybe the Rivets replacing all those plastic fasteners or just adding those rivets but just did this for now.
