What's new

Installed Bilstein 6112's and CV Boots are rubbing

So you can get the top hats on backward. I would check this first. Swapping sides on the shocks won’t fix it, they would need to be disassembled.
I got the struts assembled from Shock Surplus so I guess that is a good possibility
I got mine already assembled and they weren’t side specific(that I remember maybe I got lucky). They are a quarter inch longer in the front (forward facing) vs the rear measured from the top hat to the lower mount. I don’t know how you could get them in backward. If it’s what @ApolloChurchill said, they would have to take the shocks back apart. Maybe the LCA is all the way to the rear? That should make the caster too small. Get that alignment sheet and see what it says.
The LCA is almost all the way to the front.

It isn't a shock assembly issue, you don't have enough caster.

Realign the truck - push the LCA rear cam all the way out - it will move the lower ball joint and shock mounting point forward.
Thank you, I will take it tomorrow and see what they say.

The mystery has been solved. Bilstein preliminary findings are that there was a certain time in 2023 that the Tremors were equipped with thicker axles than other models. I believe the same axle that the Raptor has. This is why they are rubbing. Once the engineers reach their final findings they said they would make sure I receive a full refund.

All Tremors should be equipped with those axles… I’ve never heard of them being thicker than that. They’re already modified Raptor axles. Not saying it can’t be true just that’s very interesting to hear. I’d honestly have someone double check the alignment as others have said.

I agree.
Sounds like Bilstein really doesn’t know what the issue is.

Not sure at this point all I want is my money back. I had two shops look at it and the one that was a Bilstein dealer he said the same thing Bilstein said after sending them numerous photos. In shop now going back to stock strips with Stage 3 offset spacers until something is figured out.

alignment has been checked twice

Looking at the axles, the wheel side boot on your axle looks extended vs mine which looks compressed. That would be enough to rub or not rub but I wonder if it rubs the OEM shock also. Do both axles look the same?

I've got the same shocks on my '23. My CV shafts look to be the same thickness as yours - I'm not sure what Bilstein said is correct. I've got pictures - plenty of clearance between the shaft and the shock. I'd guess that something is wrong with an alignment parameter, or maybe your front axle isn't mounted properly?

Stage 3 offset spacers?
What are these?

My 6112s fit just fine with no rubbing on my CV. That is very odd.

Same for me…..no such CV boot contract / interference.
I wonder if the circlip position he’s using has anything to do with his issue. I’m using the number 3 position which is essentially stock

now they think it is because I have the front axle torsion differential option. However, at this time they have not made an offer to make it right. The last I heard they are getting a truck with same option and see if they work.

I have the Torsen and 6112s

I'm adding 6112/5100's in a couple weeks - So i can post my results here too. For those with 6112/5100 - what tire size are you running? my shop was hesitant with 285/75/18 and recommended 285/70/18 which seems almost negligible over stock. prices/weight don't seem much different so 285/75/18 seems like it should be the choice and doesn't appear to rub my most comments on the forum?

If you’re using the stock TREMOR wheels, you’ll be fine with a 295/70/18.
In my opinion, I really don’t see why many people want to go with a 285/75/18. I guess it helps them sleep better at night knowing that they have 35 tires on their TREMOR.

Yeah, because the two tenths of an inch really matters.
