My Stone Grey Build

Well I contacted BDS about a tremor specific kit and told me they intend to do one. They also sent me a link to there web page where you can sbmit your truck as a test vehicle. Although I keep thinking about it I just can’t be without my truck for that length of time, plus it is a 6 hour drive away. Hopefully they will come out with there kit before the spring, which is when I am looking to install.

It would be so easy for them to do. At the beginning of the year they told me no, but its good they are thinking about it. All they need to do is shorten the spacer for the spacer kits, adjust the coils for the coilover kits and make a bracket for the skid plate and rear brake lines. On FB they asked me for pictures of my truck with their lift. They only sent back “looks good”. 😂

Hi Fozzy:

I hope you had a great winter. Well I have been waiting patienly for BDS to come out with a specific lift kit for the Tremor and can wait no longer, so will probably go with just one of the existing kits. Were you ever able to adapt a skid plate, that is something I don’t really want to loose.

I am not able to install it myself so will be contacting a shop to do the work but it would be helpful if I knew the challenges or modifications that would be needed ahead of time. If it is not to much trouble do you think you might be able to list what some of the issues installing the kit where.

To get your 37s on did you need to trim your crash bars. I have not decided to go to 37s was only thinking of 35s in which case I would probably go with the 4 inch kit unless the 6 inch can be dialed back a little.

Thanks in advance

They haven’t done anything specific for the Tremor. I have seen on FB a member cut his factory skid plate to clear the drop brackets. But I have not done it. If you go with the puck kit the 4” will be 5” and the 6” will be 7”. If you go with the threaded Fox shocks you can adjust it down or up and the factory settings will match the regular F-150 ride height. I have a 37x13.50 tire on a -25 10” wheel. So it sticks out some and I had to cut both crash bars mainly do to the width of the tire and wheel combo. 6” and 35’s looks like it skipped leg day unless you run a wide wheel and tire set up. But that is personal preference. You do have to run a narrow set up to clear 37’s on a 6” with no cutting. I rub just a little on the front bumper even after I trimmed it. I found a kit to move the bumper forward 0.75” so I don’t have to trim anymore. I also trimmed the inside of the rear of the front fenders. The only differences besides the skid plate is the rear brake line bracket. Tremor runs the break lines down the center with the trial turn assist and the regular F-150 runs down the drivers side.

You can see how much I cut off the front and rear. Only rubs if the tire is turned in the perfect spot compressed. But I hate rubbing and don’t mind cutting things up not to rub. Need to cut the little black piece off when I get a chance.

thanks for the quick reply. I agree 35’s on a 6 inch lift would not look right that is why if I stick with 35’s I would only do a 4 inch lift. I also prefer to stick with 18” wheels.

Where did you find the kit to move the bumper forward?
That would be useful, although is am thinking of switch to a ADD bumper so I can add a winch and the light package I am interested in, but that may be another topic for another time.

Thanks for all the info this gives me a great place to start

Hi Fozzy;

Just got the following reply from BDS after asking for an update ( Iwas asking about the 4”)

Here are the two options we have for the 2022 F150 Tremor

4" https://bds-suspension.com/kit-customizer?kid=1583H
4" CO https://bds-suspension.com/product?ma=3&mo=59&ty=1&yr=2021-2023

For the DCS fox shocks click on customize kit and review important notes. I have also attached and highlighted important notes from the site regarding the Tremor models

What version did you install?, I was hoping to install the PE CO kit. Since they don’t supply UCA’s I am wondering if the coil would be too big, but if I install a new UCA maybe that would work.

I do wonder why there is a limitation on wheel size though. It seems that a lot of the kits make you use 20” wheels. I would like to stay with 18”, thoughts

Hi Fozzy

So now BDS just reached out to me and said that none of there CO kits would work because of the limitation of the CV angles and ball joint angles at full droop. Did you have any issues with this. Are they not the same as a regular F150

I have the PE kit and also ran the puck since the Fox's were backordered 6 plus months. The coil spring is the same size as factory or super close (5"). You don't need to run the UCA's on a diff drop lift since everything moves down compared to a level kit. 18" wheel may or may not fit depending on the brand and how they are manufactured. The longer steering knuckle that keeps the UCA's and tie rods in spec sit higher up in the wheel. Because of this you need more clearance. You would have to test fit the wheel and make sure it is sitting on the ground with all the weight of the truck. Wheel could clear until the suspension compresses.

They are probably tired of people asking about a "Tremor specific" kit. They know the entire front drivetrain is dropped 5" and the CV angles are as good as or better than factory on the 4" and better than any level kit at 6". The front diff in the Tremor does not sit any lower or higher than a regular F-150. The Tremor is only wider because of the wheel offset, not because of the width of the suspension. Ford claims different UCA's and steering knuckles on the Tremor. The knuckles come off with the the lift. UCA's are a moot point and could come off if you go for the looks. but since they have not put any product development into the kit they will never put it in writing. Because if they did they would be selling the kit. My CV angles are as good as the factory Tremor. If the CO shocks over extend on the Tremor they will do the same on a regular F-150. And if you have to have a "Tremor specific" kit. Rough Country has one that keeps the front skid plate. Problem solved and more money in the wallet.

Thanks a lot Fozzy for sharing all the info and being patient with all my questions. This gives me alot details when I go to one of the 4X4 shops I am going to approach about the kit. I really prefer the BDS kit since they have such a great reputation. Not a big fan of Rough Country would probably go with a halo kit first. I just saw the tread on cv angles yesterday and daw the pictures you posted that helps a lot as well.

The BDS stuff is one of the best out there. But in Rough Country’s defense they have really stepped it up. They are working hard to still give a cheaper alternative with better quality. For me, if I’m going to cut the frame on a $70K truck i might as well go for the best and go big. But if I didn’t, I would jump on the Halo kit band wagon. Best bang for the buck.

Well I added a few more things to the truck while I am waiting for my suspension components to arrive. Added a Yakima overhaul HD and Offgrid cargo basket with extension, great looking rack. Have other Yakima components and have always liked them. Also added a bed extender and a pair of rad straps.

Well I am one stop closer to getting my rig completed. Just got it back from the shop.

4inch BDS PE coil over kit .. check.

35 inch Mickey Thomason’s on 18inch Fuel wheels .. check.

ADD Stealth fighter bumper with Warn winch, BAJA 40inch main light bar and 2 BAJA 10inch yellow side fog lights .. check.

Removable licence plate holder .. check

Wife who is not as impressed as I am and said maybe I should just move in to it … check.

Guess that mean I have the OK for the roof top tent now😂

Pictures to follow

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Fozzy and everyone else on the site for all the advice and posting on your experiences it really helped.

Big shout out to the crew at Rock Spyder 4x4 in Markham Ontario. Great guys to work with lots of great advice and really know there stuff

It all certainly helped this newbee out.

Well just got back from vacation and installed my J&L oil separator that I have had sitting around for a month or so. Now if I could only figure out what to do about suspension
How was the J&L catch can install? Pretty easy? Any special tools or clamps required? Have you opened it up to see what all you are catching in it?

It was really easy to install the catch can, the only trickery part is drilling the hole in the battery holder for the second mounting bolt. I found a tip on another website that makes it easier. Mount it upside down using the first screw then you can drill right through the hole of the plate.

I have not put a lot of mileage on the truck so far but opened it twice, the first time i had put 2000 Km’s (before winter) on it had about an ounce of liquid, second time was this march, had read that you get a lot more liquid during the winter. I did not find that to be the case.

One other thing that I had installed was readylift air bags for towing.

Here are some pics:
