Putco Emblem

I was able to install mine without removing the grille
How, since the emblem has to be screwed in from the back AFTER the shutters are removed
Tips tricks?
He’s full of it. There’s attachments that are impossible to get to without removing the shutter panel. Plus feeding the wiring through would be next to impossible.

Put my hands through the grille, in between the grille and the shutters. 1/4" ratchet to take the screws off the back, you can disconnect everything if you're carefull.

I did the wiring harness and ran the wire up to the top off the grille, ran it to the driver side headlight underneath the top there a few spots where you can feed wire though.

Did it install as indicated in directions? No mods or any adaptations necessary to complete the install? What year Tremor do you have?

No mods or anything. Directions weren't super helpful because they were for the last gen, found a random video on YouTube where a guy took the grill off a gen14 and that helped. I did do the plug and play harness that tapped into the headlight.

10-4. Thank you.

When I installed my Putco emblem, I snapped the headlight harness in before really looking at how it works. Does anyone know how to unclip that from the headlight? I can't get a great view of it, and everything's working, but figured I'd see if I could find out just in case. Pushing the red tab in or pulling it out didn't seem to have any effect. You can't push it down either.

So, I just installed mine. I did not have to remove the grill either. Could get my hand through my 24 grill and undo the 3 nuts holding the emblem on. Ran the plug and play harness over to the drivers side headlight, and plug and play harness to DRL. Only issues I had was the cover for the washer nozzle feature we don’t have doesn’t latch into the emblem housing correctly so I had to super glue it, no biggie. For some reason mine doesn’t do the cool circle start up sequence but someone said something about having to ground out a green wire in the harness 🤷‍♂️. Honestly not that important to rig something for that to happen. Of someone here does it and it’s relatively simple chore, please pose and I may go back and do it, because it is kinda cool

So talked to Putco about the cool little start up sequence not working and they said if you buy it through Ford it will not do it per a licensing agreement.another F150 forum talked about a green wire in the supplied plug and play harness that needs to be grounded to accomplish this on the Ford one 🤷‍♂️

The “Authorized Ford Accessory” version is identical other than the green wire is disconnected from ground (it’s plainly visible in a cutout in the wiring wrap/plastic loom). Grounding the green or splicing it to the black, restores the animation.
did you do the green wire ground. If so can you show where you ground it to or the splicing ?

Ok, so quick note. Per Putco, the new version of the LED emblems supplied to ford DO NOT HAVE THE GREEN WIRE ANYMORE, so no cool start up sequence for us that bought throughFord 🤦‍♂️.

This is not correct they are just not telling people how to do it.

This is my post from another forum.

The Ford LED emblem is made by Putco and if you see on the Putco website the emblems they sell have a cool start up sequence and they are nice and bright. If you purchase the OEM Ford LED front emblem from directly from Ford (so you can use your Ford points) you get the same Putco emblem EXCEPT Ford did not want that cool start up sequence for some reason so Putco was told to only supply units without the start up sequence and the emblem is not as bright (This is pretty misleading for most people). Also the unit from Ford has zero instructions (Very frustrating for people that don't know what's going on). The OEM Ford unit is nice because it comes with the play and play adapter to plug into the headlight but unfortunately no instructions which creates a problem. The Plug and Play harness needs to plug into the drivers side headlight to work correctly. If you want to use the passenger side headlight which is 100% easier the black wire front the PNP harness is powered for some reason, to get it to work you will have to disconnect the black wire from the LED emblem and connect it to chassis ground and just leave the black wire from the PNP harness disconnected. Now for the start up sequence, if you want it to work before you put the emblem in you will notice 3 wires black, red and a green. That green wire is disconnected in the split loom if you purchased the one from Ford. Splice back the black wire and tap the green wire to the black wire (ground) and boom it works. I call Putco and the person I got on the phone told me there was no way to make it work but It works.

Hope this helps

Does this also make the ford supplied “OEM”one as bright as the Putco aftermarket ( I know they are both made by Putco)

Unit is identical. See my profile picture (that’s the “official” Ford accessory, which also comes with the plug and play headlight wiring adaptor).

Member MD FLIP stated that he believed the Putco one was brighter in his thread 🤷‍♂️

no, they are identical. When I put mine in 2022, the Ford unit did not have the green wire grounded which disabled the startup “dance sequence”. I only found this out by calling Putco, who basically said it was Ford request that the official Ford accessory had this feature disabled. I guess they didn’t want the Ford brand to compete with Lincoln which had a light dance on some of their models such as Aviator. I had already installed mine and have been meaning to ground the green wire, but I’ve never got around to it. As you could see in my profile the emblem light is extremely bright!

Question for those of who who removed the stock grill emblem.

Does the stock emblem separate into pieces? Meaning will the white ring and ford lettering come apart from the gloss black border?

I was thinking about painting the ring and ford lettering. It would be a lot easier if it came apart.
