What's new

Too much time on my hands, photoshop, and ideas for changes

So, I already have a couple things already planned for the '24 I got back around Xmas - front tint to match back, black lugs, and a folding bed cover - but have been thinking through a few others and thought I'd share and get some thoughts.
First, I think I'm going to get the Rough Country SF1 flares. I think I'm either going to do flat black OR have them line-x'ed, but I think I'm going to do the little slots with the electric spice color to match the rest of the trim. Messing around with photoshop, I came up with this

Of course the lighting is wrong and the images for the flares are gloss, but it gives a general idea. I think I'm at about 90% certain I want to do this look though.

Second one I'm thinking of is getting the tow hooks and skid plate line-x'ed as well, but color matched with the electric spice. I like it, but can't decide if it's too much. should I just go with black on the plate and only do the hooks with the orange?View attachment 36027
🤢🤮

Yeah, I think I'll go that direction 😄 I know that plate will get beat up, but that gray just stands out too much to me when the rest of the colors are black, orange, or the OEM gray wheels.
Sweet , Flip me a Photo when you get her done. Is your truck lifted , if so what did you go with? I just looked don't look like it. I put a R/C Hard cover on mine this time. I like to open mine all the way up. On my last 2 trucks I put Leer hard covers There around 1200. and they stand up right, witch I like. R/C does the same thing and it was 649. I like it a little better than the Leer. That's me !! Better price and I think Leer make's it , But what do I know. Check them out. I ran Leer on my 2016 FX4 w-2.7 and on My 2018 FX4 w-3.5 Both trucks were Black, My Tremor is AM- BLUE!! The only thing they had on the lot. I really wanted the Dark Gray, they said they had one coming in in a week but it didn't show up. O well Blue it was. It almost looks Black at times !! I all so Drove the V-8 and 3.5 trucks before i bought one. Went with the 3.5 hands down.

Not lifted, as lifted won't fit in my work's parking garage 😄 stock *barely* fits. I SO wanted the anti-matter blue, but was in at year end trying to get a deal before I lost the 1.9% APR. I also wanted the 3.5 (loved it in the 16 I had), but they only had the V8 still in a 100 miles radius. I don't drive enough to be too put out by the difference in MPG, and while I wasn't originally caring about the sound, the V8 has grown on me in that regard.
I had a foldable cover on the 16, Leer sounds familiar, and I loved that, and will be getting one eventually.

So, after speaking with my local Line-X installer, the cost to do just the little spots on the flares and the tow hooks is highly cost prohibitive color matching to the Tremor orange. I ended up buying the Rough Country flares, and then bought the Electric Spice spray set from TouchUpDirect. I then taped off around the louvers on the flares, sanded, primed, painted, and clear coated them. I was a bit messy, and ended up going outside of where I wanted to be be with it, as the flat black made it tough to be able to know exactly where some of the design begins and ends. The Line-X guys are going to clean up around it for me, as they have FAR more practice taping things off and said that they'll be able to make the lines look better. Overall, I think this is going to look really nice once they're sprayed and installed!

How do you like the color match? I've been looking at the OEM paint code UM/7414 Agate black for my husky rvl's that I'm getting ready to install and been contemplating which direction to go for color.
Would be nice if something kinda blended the transition between the body and rim color.

I probably won't color match the black. Since the running boards are coated in Line-X (well, Ford's branded stuff, which is Line-X) I am going to just go with that color for the black for a look contrast. Also decided I'm going to do Line-x in the back wheel wells instead of the husky liners, since I'll be getting the flares and skid plate sprayed.
I will say, though, that I was told that unless you have a decent sized job, the Line-X shops won't typically do color match (which is why I got the TouchUpDirect paint). They have to clean out the entire machine when they do the color matching not once, but twice, as you don't want the black color in with the color match colors and then you don't want the color match to show up in the black after the job is done. That means they're down the whole time it's being cleaned. If you do an entire bed, or other large areas, they'll do it, and they'll upcharge a little, but the small amounts here for the louvers and tow hooks just make it highly cost inefficient.

Yeah I did consider doing a lineX on em but thought it would be more trouble than I wanted atm. I probably will just go OEM color. The struggle is real 😂

All the orange and linex looks like someone went wild at AutoZone.
I've definitely toned down my expectations on using so much orange overall. Black on the skid plate will definitely look far better. While I'll probably do the line-x on the skid plate and the flares, the orange will be accent only, like what I did in the louvers on the flares. I probably won't go with colored tow hooks, at least not for now. If I do end up doing that, it's only like 150 bucks to get orange front tow hooks to replace the black ones on front, so I might do that once I get everything else done, but haven't really decided one way or another yet. I did pick up the Tremor branded sill covers (used some of the Ford Rewards points for that, a lock for the trailer hitch, and spare tire lock), so that's another thing I'll be putting on eventually. Wife also got me a set of Baselayer floor mats for my birthday, which are AWESOME! (and so is she!)

Now, if I could just get the owner of the local line-x shop to get back with me on getting me scheduled! I actually have the money set aside right now, and it would be awesome to get stuff done.

Maybe check with your dealership local or nearby.. When I bought my '24 They told me $350 to do it there with a lifetime warranty but I'm sure every dealership is different.

Well, the local linex shop is who they'd send it to, and the owner of the shop is my brother-in-law, so I'd hear about it if I paid extra to send it through the dealer first 😄 just gotta be patient and let him get back to me on his time lol

Got the trailer hitch cap today I ordered, then figured I'd use the Touchup Direct paint on it. First chance I've had to see that paint on something in comparison to the Tremor logo. Definitely matches up well!

Black lugs installed. Got the flares dropped off to the Line-X shop, and they're going to get those done in the next week or so, so finally getting stuff moving on the upgrades!
