How do they ride compared to the generals?

I don’t understand why they are so heavy as load C.

May pull the trigger today on an order of these 35/11.5r18 load C, to replace some Nitto Recons with plenty of life still in them, but killin me on wet pavement (not literally yet). Thoughts on fit, with 1.5" pucks?

Any final thoughts also, on these vs something like a Nitto Terra Grappler G3 or Toyo Open Country, or vs AT4W in 295/75/18 in E? The E rated are 0.3" thinner, per spec, but 5 lb heavier each. I have the occasionally heavy bed, but still not towing/foreseeably, and would love to shave (or at least, not gain) any weight at corners, for acceleration.

Recon 295/70/18 E, 63.6 lb, 34.29 x 11.77
AT4W 35x11.5/18 C, 62.6 lb, 34.9 x 11.9
AT4W 285/75/18 E, 67.2 lb, 35 x 11.6

Interested to see aired down performance vs E

I am really happy with the AT4's ride is almost stock, quieter than my worn grabbers, no rubbing, and they look sooooo good. dealership had them aired to 40, I'm going to drop it to 36 today and see how they feel.

Truck looks nice cheif. How much clearance you got at front/back of tire with that 2.5 lift, when turned?

Please see this excellent review that makes real measurements in all conditions including snow breaking.

The KO2 is by far the best in snow. Also the KO2 is 10Y older. In another preview (not full review) he says he prefers the KO3s over the new Falkens.

This is the most scientific review available online for tires.

The KO3 is currently the best AT you can buy. The Falkens aren’t bad, but not great in snow.

It depends on your use ultimately.

Here is another test with snow braking measurement. The new Falkens takes twice as long distance to stop as the KO3.

Those Falkens are really bad when you consider most people on forums said they got those for snow performance.

KO3s scare me a bit as there are a lot of people complaining about balance issues.

If you have to stop on a dime in shit weather, you're likely fucked anyway. ;)

So what are you trying to say? That it’s fine to have 177ft stopping distance at the tested speed because 85 is already a lot? Lol. Hope that was a joke ;)

I've driven my AT4Ws in the snow several times and, unfortunately, don't find the snow traction as strong as the OEM Grabbers. Still, the snow braking result of 177 ft on the AT4Ws vs. 85 ft on the KO3s (and even 90 ft on the old Firestones) in the TFL video is extreme and doesn't make sense. It's a much greater distance than the Tyre Reviews video, which found the AT4Ws' snow braking distance to be about 86 ft.

I've found that the AT4Ws seem to have the hardest time with icy snow conditions (like here in CO, where the snow melts during the day and freezes overnight). At any rate, it seems like Falken oversold the AT4Ws' snow capabilities, and the BFGs are a better choice for snow driving.

Well you can’t compare TFL breaking distance with Tyre reviews, they did not drive the same vehicle, in the same snow, etc. Snow type, depth, ice under snow, etc would dramatically affect results. Also the TFL is in a slight slope I believe.

We can only compare tires in the same conditions, and the conclusion is that the AT4W suck in snow and ice. It would be a fine tire for someone who doesn’t experience such conditions.

As far as I am concerned it’s a deal breaker.

Sure, but the Tyre Review test compared multiple tires on the same course, in the same conditions, using the same vehicle, and didn't find anywhere near a 100 foot stopping distance between the Falkens and the other tires. The TFL result seems odd, just saying.

Just like Consumer Reports…..take it with a grain of salt.
Ignore the reviews and draw your own user conclusions.

KO2’s were great in the snow, but garbage in the wet. I ran them for years but got tired of the wet traction. And I agree in the odd review from TFL, I watched and read every review that I could before I got the AT4’s and all comparisons had the falken performing great in the snow and superb in the wet. Where I live in New England snow is important but wet is importanter!

On a trip right now but I’ll measure for you when I get home in a few days. Also, dropped PSI down to 36 warm and she’s riding just as smooth as she was with the grabbers. I know a lot didn’t enjoy the “floaty boat” handling of the factory set up but I loved the smooth quite ride and am really happy the 35”s didn’t take it from me!

Well this sucks to read as I had AT3W's on my 4R and they were great in wet and snow here in CO. I was planning to go with the AT4W's when my Grabbers wore out. But if you are saying they suck....hmmmm, maybe not? But besides a dedicated snow tire, nothing is going to be good on ice. That's what studded tires are for. l'm more concerned for slush or snow and those April-May dumpers of rain we get.

Great thread, would especially love to hear performance reviews, wet and snow both, as each tire crests about 10k mi. I'm far more concerned with wet performance these days, and that will be the determining factor on next purchase, but have lived in heavy snow for stints, and understand concern also.

I don't think the AT4s suck, and honestly I'm quite happy with them. I do think Falken may have over hyped the snow capabilities a bit, but with that being said, I had no problem getting around in the snow we recently had. And to be fair, we had a bit of snow - we had about 2.5' over the course of four days.

After reading this thread yesterday, I drove through some frozen snow that was still around from our last storm on the way to pick the kids up from school. I didn't really have any slippage going over uneven mounds of frozen snow at moderate (residential) speed.

And I agree with the comment about the ice. It's going to be rough for any tire that is not studded. My wife has Blizzak's and you still have to be very careful on ice.
