2023 Tremor Transmission Failed 30k miles (Many thanks to Todd Silva Planet Ford 59 Houston!!!!)

One of the reason you buy a Ford or Chevy is the large dealer network. I thought it would come in handy if I ever a had a problem out of town. I will need to rethink that strategy.
I think this is a systemic problem everywhere. Where I work we have been hiring top tier A Techs away from the local dealers because they are tired of working nights and weekends and for flat rate. Good for us, bad for getting my truck fixed.
I just asked a couple of them why Ford might do this...the response was that they may not have a qualified/trained mechanic in that neck of the woods. Or, Ford knows something no one else does and wants to move it to a known dealer that keeps things quiet.
Who knows.

I continue to wait for a diagnosis. Argh! I guess all of the Ford quality issues and loss of staff to work on warranty claims is a real problem. It really makes warranties not so great! At some point you would just take to a reputable 3rd part shop with staff if you want your car back in a reasonable time!!!

At this point you can start thinking about lemon-law

FYI,
my wifes 2020 eco boost mustang....had hard shifting into reverse for a loooong time, took it to 2 different dealerships and neither had a transmission tech for over a year...so I documented my concern and "it could not be duplicated" I didn't care as we purchased a 6 yr 150k warranty. car hit 100k miles and it was getting worse, last oil x ford dealer finally had a trans tech. they ended up rebuilding the transmission and gave us a rental car for 3 weeks. cost me 100.00.

when I bought my tremor, I knew id be putting on some miles to work on our Utah property...so I purchased a 8 yr 175k warranty on my truck, it was not cheap at 6k..but I'm ok with it.

I am told that I have a warped transmission pan!!!! I was told that it’s not a common problem but they have seen it before!!!!! My suggestion is upgrade to metal at your first service. This has cost me lot’s of aggravation for a $400 part!!!!! Probobly out $1k as I was 500 miles from home and I rented a non Ford so they may or may not pay me back! Will post a final update when i get the paperwork!

They dropped pan and found no debris, they put a new pan, filter and fluid and they tell me it’s running good. They are testing it. How do you test? Is my now 30k transmission really a 80k transmission inside? Thoughts? How do you gauge running hot and slipping? Add new fluid and filter and it’s all good. Checking for codes and updating software. It never had a code on the screen when it slipped and ran hot. WTF! I do have a 10 year 100k warranty with $100 deductible. At a min I want them to go to 0 deductible and more miles. Thoughts?

Well, the true test will come when you get it back and put some miles on it.

Reading that bulging/leaking plastic transmission pans is common. So keep an eye on your pan. I did see that the GM version of the 10 speed has a steel/metal pan. Likely, a good idea. I have also read that replacing the plastic pan if pulled is not a bad idea as the cold/hot cycles causes the problem. Also, easy to damage and over tighten the plastic as well. Just my 2 cents.

My problem is the dealer closest to the failure in FL on Nov 30, cannot even look at until January at the earliest. That is taking way too long in my opinion for a truck under warranty. It sits in FL now possible getting moved to Plant Ford 59 in Houston at some point in the future. Waiting on corporate Ford to make the move. Warranty is no good if dealers out of town don’t work on out of town Fords.
Man I just got your replay. Did you get your truck Fixed ? Brandon Ford or Elder Ford and Bill Curry ford are all real good to deal with.

So they replaced the plastic pan with another plastic pan? Or did you have them put an aftermarket one on?

They replaced and worked the tranny before we could grab a aftermarket pan. I only run 8K or so miles per year so I will have it replaced in a year. I didn’t know the pan was warped as I never was able to get under the truck as I left it in FL when it died! They jumped on the repair quicker than I thought in Houston. The team at Planet Ford 59 has really helped me out, so not going to complain. But, the AL pan is a good upgrade. The fact that the Chevy 10L80 engineers specified a steel pan on the AT4 says a lot. Not sure if other Chevy/GM 10L80’s have metal or plastic. I guess Ford was cheap!

Definitely a 3.5 EB equipped TREMOR issue because the Coyote equipped TREMORS have always had a steel pan.

Why would the transmission pan be different depending on the engine? I can see what you're saying if the discussion was the oil pan...
Oops….my bad.
I was thinking of something else.
That’s what I get for starting Happy Hour so early.🤣

The oil pan is steel and the transmission pan is plastic. The plastic pan is the same on all F-150's as far as I know.

We know you've enjoyed happy hour when we see "Tremor" instead of "TREMOR" lol.

I was googling all around trying to see what you were talking about 😂

Many thanks to Todd Silva with Planet Ford 59 Humble, TX. Without his help I think my truck would still be in Florida. He is good people!!!
