What's new

Apologies to anyone hearing a persistent faint choir of angels.

Apologies for not having numbers to report. Been busy as hell. I received the tune file a couple days ago and only just now finally had time to install it, and even then only had time to go drive it for 10 minutes and to make this post.

I want to stress that I don't take recommending someone spend $800 lightly. That said, preliminary butt dyno readings are in:

Y'ALL NEED TO GET UP ON THIS SHIT

What fuel map are you using and what is the projected bump in power? Also, what supporting mods do you have for the tune?

"91-93 octane performance tune"

For some reason I can't find public claims on HP increase for our engine specifically, but they say their tune for a powerboost engine bumped it 90hp and I doubt any of that was from the electric motor.

No other mods unless you count the rear shocks (which probably do aid in keeping my tires on the ground). My wife is on the verge of murdering me already so I made sure to blow the last of my frivolous spending budget as effectively as possible lol.

So is this an inline tuner like the JB 4 or an ECU tune?

Flash tune
Yep. So so much more than a "MORE BOOST" mod.

Still no hard numbers but I wanted to gush more about it after doing a round trip work commute and some errands. These guys are artists. Far from just being +90 peak hp. It's more like +100 ft*lbs at any RPM, throttle response that puts it at your immediate command, and transmission reprogramming that makes the truck much more willing to put its power to use without holding on to any one gear too long like sport mode will.

It's a totally different truck. Still refined, but get into the throttle and it will lunge like a demon and pull HARD until you let off.

I'm down for a flash, maybe an intake and IC but that's it. I am not going deep into mods like I did with my GTI.

That's awesome tell hear! Glad you're enjoying it. And for anyone not aware, this tune can also go back to stock with no trace. The only thing it changes is the start count: which is reset to 0. So essentially, just turn it on and run around a bit and turn it off a few times before taking it to a dealer to look at and they can't tell at all. They have exclusive access to a lot of Ford ECU information.

How's the gas - big mpg hit?

This seems intriguing except for the 91 octane part of it.... I'm assuming they can do 88 octane tunes without the peak gains?

Why buy a flash tune to get more performance and then run less than 91-93? Seems counter productive.

I did it on my last truck. Still better than stock and for the amount of times I would actually floor it, it was a good trade off.

Reset this morning, 17 avg so far driving like an absolute jackass. Long term previous average was reading 18.7. I'm thinking if I can exercise a little self-control (unlikely) it could probably match or exceed stock mpg.

Generally a tune provides better MPG when not running in boost constantly.

@PaulBlartMallCrawler few questions since I'm considering one of these:

- how is it with the adaptive cruise and blue cruise?

- do you just drive in normal with the tune? How are the other modes with it, like does the tune factor the mode your in into it?

- can you run without it easily, or off let's say. And are the tunes easy to switch between?

- Where do you have the screen mounted? Phone app?

- does it account for other mods, like intake, exhaust, intercooler etc?

1. 401a pleb so not sure, but regular cruise control is completely unaffected

2. Yes sir I just keep it in normal mode. No more need for sport since this is like a lovechild of stock normal and sport modes. I'm actually waiting for an answer back from Livernois on whether or not it impacts other drive modes, since they stress avoiding towing with a performance tune. I'll report back once I get an answer.

3. Running with it off requires the entire reflashing process which is a little involved, requires a little underhood action. Day to day there's absolutely zero reason to want it disabled though. Driveability/transmission management is objectively better than stock. Only time I'll even consider flashing back to stock would be for warranty work diagnosis.

4. No screen/app. You can, I just haven't gotten around to it due to my wife's totalitarian dictatorial demands over my time lately. I'm getting bitched at for being "probably on that damn truck forum again." 🤣

5. Yes. You upload your truck's specific stock tune to them then fill out a request form that includes your personal list of mods which they can apparently account for remotely. I've noticed the tuner they send does have datalogging features which I haven't explored but imagine could also be sent to them for further finetuning. There's no charge for additional tune requests if/when you get new parts.

I want E85 as an option. Would that be feasible?

Great info, thanks!

Curious about the towing - so you basically can't tow unless you flash back which is a little complicated?

I think you can get a towing flash as well, I know other tuners have a performance/towing tune for the older f150 5 star tuning for example.

not on the strictly performance tune but that’s what I’m waiting on an answer for. Hoping the tune only applies to normal driving mode which would leave towing as an option without flashing
