Bed Rack + Tonneau Cover

Have mine sitting in the living room waiting for the truck. Haven't got the rack system yet but looking at Thule as the yakima set up was more expensive, though it looks a little better. I was surprised at the price of those racks, wasn't expecting to spend $1k for the crossbars, the feet, and the bike racks.

Looks great on your truck, exactly what it's supposed to do. I don't think that system can be beat as far as practicality, durability, and ease of use. Between the retrax pro XR and the racks it'll be ~$4k though so it does get pricey.
This rack was 660 total. So not terrible really.

Not including the final attachment points though right? Like now if you wanted to mount two bikes, you'd need to get the two bike mounts which are $100-$150 each.

Yes. But I already had all of that so free to me lol.

I ended up buying a Retrax XR with Yakima Landing Pad #1 + Skyline Towers + Jetstream bars. This is a low rack I decide to go that route since it'll make my life easier most of the time. Retrax since I want to be able to open and close the cover while both the bed and the rack is full. There isn't any other option that would allow that. The rack is nice in that it removes very quickly. Really the only downside is the lose of bed space.

One downside that I may be misunderstanding is the impact on the loss of field of view (FOV) of the rear view mirror. Racks that result in mounting your cargo directly in the FOV of the rear view mirror seem, to me at least, to compromise safety. I personally can’t stand stuff that blocks the FOV of my rear view mirror, which is why I’m leaning towards a higher overland-style rack. What am I missing?

Any of you guys gone with Syneticusa over retrax? Opinions? Has rack options with t-slot.

This rack option has more t slots then anyone could ever need!

Depending on what you have on it. For me 95% of the time I’d say its no issue. But yeah if your putting a RTT on it all the time a higher rack might be better. The down side to a high rack is its hard to get stuff up there and down from there. So for me Ill take that tradeoff all day.

You can also turn on the backup cam to get a rear view if that changes anything for you.

That looks really nice. I just can't justify the cost. All that would be well over $4k here in Canada, so I'm going with the x4s cover and Adarac m series rack. It will sit 12" above the cover, allowing for view out rearview mirror and room to roll up the cover. And will only cost me $2000.

If I already had bars etc, I would have gone another route for sure.

My other conumdrum with a canister roll up inside bed is losing that space my 4 wheeler may not fit with the tailgate down the wheels may drop off tailgate.

I have no dirt bikes or 4 wheelers so it's a pretty good trade off for me. If I did I would probably be getting a bak x4s cover. With that cover there are a couple options if you still want a rack. RSI and xtrusion xrt1 have adapters. I probably would buy the t-track and drill/bolt it to the bed rail.

Here’s a buddys rig that did that.

The only gotcha is the rack needs to be a bit higher if you want to open bed cover with it installed. Also the F150 bed rails have like ridges. Not sure how much that would complicate install.

That's the other benefit to the x4s, it can be completely removed in minutes. The retrax can as well, it requires 2 people as the rails are attached.

I have NEVER even heard of this. Looks neat. Would be curious if they match the quality of retrax. I'd be nervous to buy it myself. But it sure looks great from the pictures.

Troy, I have been going back and forth between your setup and a RSI shell. I have a few questions you might be able to answer for me. Can you open and close the tailgate without opening the cover? I am leaning towards the powered one so I don’t have to mess around with a key and leave the remote in the bed of the truck. Also what is the measurement from the bed floor to the underside of the cover? I want to make sure I have room for my fridge in the bed and possibly with a fridge slide. Thanks for any help.

Can't give you the measurement as don't have my truck yet but the bed does open without opening the cover.

Yes on tailgate. Opens and closes no problem the cover closed.
Once you unlock the retrax you can remove the key. So you can keep it unlocked and put your keys back. Truck has the door code, so even if you locked your keys in the bed just open the cab and hit the tailgate down button.

About 10.5 inches from the bottom of the canister to the bottom of the bed.

How much of the bed do you lose? Have you seen anything that protects shroud it rolls up into in case someone runs their 4 wheeler into it?

About 13 inches into the bed. I haven't seen anything to protect it, but I haven't looked either.

Could I ask one more favor? What’s the distance from tonneau cover case to the edge of tailgate when tailgate is down? Thank you .

Awesome. Thank you. This will help with my decision. It could be a bit before I need to decide. My dealer is not being to helpful. Ordered December 23rd. As far as I’ve gotten.
