Bed Rack + Tonneau Cover

Anybody have any knowledge on mountain top tonneau covers? They claim to have smallest container size holds 500 lbs. and has rack capabilities.

the only thing i dont like about that Mountain Top addon rack system is that it says it holds 165lbs. If you're only using it for bikes/kayaks should be totally fine, not rated to hold a RTT or anything heavy though.

the (much) more expensive retrax pro xr + yakima overhaul racks carry 300 lbs off road, 500 lbs on road, and 800 lbs parked

I’m reading Mountain Top supports 450 lbs. On another note does every retractable cover require drill holes running hose to drain water?

I believe the 450lbs is on top of the Tonneau itself, as in you could place gear on top of the retraceable cover and strap it down. The 165lbs is for on top of the racks.

Also, its annoying they don't state the weights as on road, off road, and parked weight capacity. The difference is important for safety reasons. I assume they are quoting On road (pavement) numbers.

Got it. That takes care of that option. I’m back to retrax then. Thanks.

I’m now buying the Embark LS from dealer using x-plan. Same as retrax right? Then the rack for kayaks. Any suggestions how to get an additional rack for a tent on top of everything.

I've been thinking about screwing a molle panel into the retrax canister in the center, underneath the cover. It looks like it has a 1/2"-3/4" inside before the screw or thread would touch the roll and affect it rolling up. I have the power one with the light and the light seems to be screwed in somehow.

Trying to brainstorm how this could go wrong before making a hole in my $2700 retrax. Have been looking online to see if anyone has done anything similar but haven't seen anything. I've seen people screw into the top of the canister outside the cover though, for a bully bar or rail attachment. I was thinking about using rivnuts.

To me, that's a lot like cutting a hole in your new truck for a snorkle. You really want the functionality but crap the idea hurts

This is exactly it yes, lol.

I also have thought, what if I had a metal shop make an aluminum bar that went end to end in front of the canister, and attached on the end points with a bracket to the smaller side molle panels, so it would be in front of the canister and I could attach items to the bar, using that space, without actually drilling into the canister as it would attach to the perpendicular molle panels. I could have the bar powdercoated to match the Tremor orange.

Here's the quick drawing on my phone.

Is this a dealer installed option or something? What was the price with x-plan?

My understanding is that Embark is the Ford labeled tonneau cover made by retrax. Someone on this forum mentioned using x -plan to also purchase items through ford, beating prices of other companies. I have not gone into dealer as of yet to discuss pricing.

Diamondback SE, with the front runner rack. Had diamondback instal the rails, don’t need that stress in my life.

Came together quite well, can’t wait to have some skis on her next winter.

Anyone install cross bars with BAK X4S roll cover? I emailed this Billie Bar company that is all over instagram and they said the bracket and bars should fit..

Anybody with BAK X4s tell me the distance between the truck bed and bottom of the tonneau cover? I just ordered one and want to know the height limit of tubs or coolers that will fit.

Wasn't too keen on the Diamondback's inititally, but dang, that's sick! Might have to reconsider my plan...

Just curious, do they make taller risers (i.e. cab height) for that rack system? I like the short ones for mtb's, but it won't work for kayaks.

They sell an adjustable Yakima rack that does it: https://diamondbackcovers.com/colle...verhaul-hd-rack-system?variant=39663403532387

I'll vouch for Diamondback. I have one on my Tacoma and it is absolutely worth the investment, especially in a place where you need to be able to securely lock things in the bed or feel like you have some reason to stand on top of it. Also carrying capacity on the top and ability to strap things down. Even with the 5 foot bed on the Tacoma, I've transported 16ft pieces of lumber through the back window strapped down onto the Diamondback cover. Not exactly safe or a warm comfy feeling doing it that way, but it at least works well...
