Dismal Fuel Economy

Higher octane isn't just netting you better MPG for the price also, it's much cleaner for the motor over its life and performs better. Good spreadsheet, thanks for sharing 👍

I never said I bought cover to increase my mpg…. I wanted it for functionality and I kind of like the look of it….. here in nc, the difference in 87 to 91 octane is around 75 cents…. That’s considerable….. I’m not convinced if your vehicle doesn’t recommend premium gas that there is any benefit at all in performance or overall mpg increase by putting a higher octane….. seems like there have been studies published that have proven unless your Mercedes’ or bmw or Lexus recommends premium fuel, you are wasting your money opting for premium….

I agree mostly with the fact that most cars don’t need premium. A higher octane just helps with pre-detonation on higher compression high performance engines. Most cars do not hav either. I put regular in the wife’s NA Jeep, but my Twin Turbo? Premium baby! The owners manual does say that regular will run, but states that 93 is recommend for maximum performance or towing. I’ll give the knock sensor a break and let that boost build! But, different strokes for diff erent folks. The wife ran regular in her old ecoboost explorer for over 100k and it never hurt the truck but she did notice the better acceleration when I gassed it up with premium!

Yup yup - wasn't saying YOU specifically were over-focused on it. I've just seen too many people chase one or two points of MPG not really understanding the overall effect. I know folks that have traded in vehicles (yes, traded in, not sold and bought new) because they thought it was a better financial move to buy a new vehicle that got a couple points better mpg than keep their current vehicle (running fine, less than 100K, etc). That's all.

I'm pretty stoked considering my Rebel got 15.4 average over 54K miles, my Power Wagon averages 9'ish and my F1 get 6 highway and seems to eat rear tires on avgas...

Here's that chart with your fuel prices reflected:

Thanks, I like most people who bought a tremor on here, didn’t buy it for gas mileage efficiency…. I’m tickled to death with 17 mpg…. I remember getting 9-11 mpg downhill and a tailwind on a super duty 13-14 years ago…… but you’re just not going to convince me to buy premium fuel…… even when I am towing something….. I love this truck….. it’s the best vehicle I’ve had and I don’t care to remember the number I’ve had in the past. But again, thanks for the numbers.

I have 3k on my tremor. Probably 2/3 of that really short city driving. I've noticed cold starts really suck the gas and if you have any type of lead foot it likes to eat the gas on the occasions that I've played around more. I hate those real time fuel gauges as I get a tad obsessed watching it. Lol. On some of my longer highway trips running 75-80 I've been anywhere between 17.5-19.5. On short city drives with the cold weather 14 right now. I set one of the trip meters the day I picked the truck up and overall for the 3k miles I'm getting 16.3 which isn't too bad.

I gave up on using eco — seen no increase in MPG. I now just drive in normal and forget about it, with the occasional move to sport mode for some fun.
Agreed with not seeing a benefit on Eco mode nor have I seen a noticeable change with higher octane that justifies the premium. Appreciate the spreadsheets quantifying the cost differences!

I’m at 15.7 at 4700 feet elevation.
Running 91 octane.
Mixture of freeway and stop and go.
430 miles on ofemeter.

Today in way home 21 miles being normal no lead foot was 19.5

But I’ve done my fair share ripping on it here and there.

I’m coming from an Xterra that was maybe a single MPG better.

Overall I’m pleased with the MPG, but was considering a Powerboost loaded Lariat before leaning at the Tremor.

For reference. My 21’ Limited PowerBoost averaged about 17.5-18 mpg for around town driving. No where near the advertised 24/24. I babied it, tried eco mode, tried to keep it in all electric mode in neighborhoods and parking lots. It was very frustrating. It had other issues as well with the onboard power generator having a ground default that the dealer could not fix as well as the Sync updates not working. After 8,100 miles….sold it. Ordered a Tremor. The limited felt too fancy for me anyway.
Can’t wait to get it.

geez, I get around 14-15 mpg. Hook up a trailer and it is terrible. I pull an aluminum enclosed 16 foot trailer that is 1500 lbs with 1500lbs payload and I get about 6.7mpg. Thats equates to a lot of stops on a road trip. 5k on the truck. I would be happy with 9 or 10. I can pull a small empty atv trailer that weight about 800 lbs and I get just a bit over 9 mpg. Pretty poor numbers. And if you go 70mph ugh!

I just did a 1700 mile trip south and averaged 14.9 at 80mph. 1st 700 miles I had a wicked headwind and got 12-13 mpg though. Heading back up north in a few days and hoping for better without the headwind!

I was averaging about 13.8-14 on stock 33’s. Since I changed to 35’s I get 11.5-12 max. I have a Power Commander on Sport III and think the throttle is perfect with the 35’s. On 33’s it was too jumpy at that setting, the larger diameter tire feels better but mpg’s went down but spg’s went way up.

Okay… Finally, I’m seeing better fuel economy. Funny thing though, my MPGs seem to increase with my wife in the right-hand seat! 😆
This past weekend I got near 19.2 mpg driving from NW of Austin to (beyond) Corpus Christi, with moderate traffic for the first half of the trip. (I fueled back up to full not long after arriving in Aransas Pass to calculate fuel economy.)

It looks like my lead foot is mostly to blame for less impressive numbers… Imagine that!

I am surprised that my Tremor gets about the same or slightly worse mpg than my 2017 Raptor did. (about 15.2 with 4k miles on it)

Thats with the same daily drive and same gas.

Thought that the Tremor with smaller tires and lower HP would get better mpg.

my average with my driving was 16.9 stock and about 14.9 with the off road wheels on. I haven't done enough with the trailer to get a good read on it, yet.

We just took a trip to San Antonio from Oklahoma City and on the way down there with a crazy headwind from the south and running close to 80 most the way, I averaged 14.5mpg. On the way back there was no consistency with speed because we came back up I-35…between the major construction in most of the big cities we passed through, and what seemed like everyone trying to escape the apocalypse as we drove north…I averaged 20.3mpg from our hotel to our driveway (about 450mi driven). That was waaaay better to see. The whole trip with 1070 miles, I averaged 16.7.
