Would love to help more than I am able to at the moment but work unfortunately calls, we are short at the moment due to one leaving and a couple who are out due to being affected by this disaster, I was fortunate to mainly just have trees blown down. I will tell you that what I'm seeing and being told by other individuals that are in these areas, it's a lot worse than the media is reporting, as in more deaths and destruction. Thanks, Faktor! We need people like you on our team!
Where at in NC do you think you're heading? All I can say is becareful, bring extra chains for the saws and if you need thelo finding anything pm me here and I will do what I can.I’m not surprised that it’s worse than shown… I can’t wait to get out there.
It looks like we’re actually going to North Carolina. Not sure why exactly but I just go where I’m told.
That said, we’re an all-volunteer veteran/first responder organization, based out of northern Kentucky, but if you’re ever interested in joining, I’ll get you the commander’s contact info.
Stay safe and good luckI don’t know yet. I’ll get the specifics soon. We have extra chains and bar oil and engine oil and gas.
Thanks! I bought an extra chainsaw today and extra chain for it, though I might want 2 extras… we can sharpen them in the field at least.Stay safe and good luck
This one better not come up this way! Poseidon and I will be having a heart to heart if it does!Round 2
Well, somehow all that stuff and more fit... I can't wait for the 5mpg I'm going to get!View attachment 32869
Just some of the kit on today’s packing. It all fit in!
I redid the bottom part of that shield in one piece, so it looks better nowLooks like I'll be deploying on a disaster response mission with Kentucky Homeland Heroes. Most of the response efforts are in Florida, which is reasonable, but we're probably heading to Tennessee or likely North Carolina. Glad I finally got the truck mostly done and ready to go (except for the temporary, hand-cut logos. I'm working on the door logos right now...)!
If anyone is from those states and you have information on what areas are hardest hit or are not receiving a lot of help, please let me know. I can't guarantee we'll be able to help, as we'll likely be directed by the local first responders/emergency management and/or the VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters) Coordinator but we should be heading down there Monday. We'd like to go sooner but can't.
Also, I hate to ask, but we'd always appreciate donations to the GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/f/fueling-disaster-response-with-kentucky-homeland-heroes, which will help cover tools and equipment. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61559674576701. EIN: 99-1554946.
(I'm working on getting our Charity Navigator and GuideStar profiles set up in the little free time I have these days, and our website should be up soon!)
