Yes the smaller mountain towns were basically washed out, I was in newland and Lenoir NC Wednesday and most bridges on the toe River were gone I saw at least 7 state bridges just washed out all together, and they were talking a few weeks to get power back to 90% of the people, they had power to about 70% then. At the same time though these people are pretty self sufficient, used to dealing with snow storms and so forth, everyone is chipping in. FEMA had just showed up there with 3 people to allow for people to apply for aid, that's the only federal response that was there, NC national guard was there helping deliver supplies and clearing some debris, but what you saw mainly were locals out with equipment helping each other.
