Iconic Silver Tremor - Xpel Stealth PPF

I like the way that RSI cap looks on the silver! I have one ordered to go on my Stone Grey

I’m taking bets on which one shows up first 😂. Ordered my Tremor in March, RSI cap in July when I got my VIN

Waiting waiting waiting

Yeh, I really like it so far. I think the Sport version with the glass side doors would look even better. I would have had to wait for that version and not sure when I would have got it. I think for how I am going to be using it though the Adventure was a better option for me anyway.

What was the level of tint for the front door windows?

I also have a silver one, but don't want to make the mistake to go darker in the front, just looks weird

I matched the factory tint suggested by my installer which was 20%. However, this is technically lower than what is actually the Georgia state law of 32%. We only have emissions inspections in some counties and tint is not part of that like the safety inspections some states have. So hopefully I will not run into the wrong cop along the way.

Did you add a ceramic coating on top of the film? I have an appointment for the PPF, and they asked if I wanted to add the Xpel Fusion. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes, I went with the Xpel Fusion Plus ceramic coating on top of the PPF. It complements the PPF adding some additional benefits. It makes it much more hydrophobic so it stays cleaner and cleans up easier. It also provides some protection to the PPF. I know sounds kinda dumb, but to have a protectant for a protectant. I think it helps with like additional UV protection, and a harder slicker surface to maintain a better overall condition.

Not dumb. Can I ask how much it was? Do you feel it gave a deeper matte look to the finish, or did you not see it between the two installations?

The ceramic coating was $1600. I did not see it in between. I had it done all at once. There are some in-progress pictures from earlier in the thread while they were installing the PPF. Not sure if you can tell much difference though because those pictures were taken inside in a well-lighted area and the after pics are outside with varying natural light. I don't think it necessarily makes it appear deeper matt because the ceramic coating will actually provide a glossy shine if it is on a smooth surface. I think it probably makes the metal flake of the Iconic Silver a bit more noticeable when you are up really close, but I do not think that the general appearance really changed.

You must have had either a couple layers installed or that included interior. Or the place offering mine isn’t charging enough. I won’t be the one to tell them. They did offer interior for $700, but I think I can keep that clean.

The Xpel website “claims” FUSION PLUS PAINT & PPF to the STEALTH film will not make the surface glossy; it will enhance the depth of the matte finish.

No, I did not have the interior done, but the price of that would have been $300 more. It did include a paint correction to the clear coat prior to the PPF. It also included all the exterior surfaces like the wheels and windows as well. Additionally, there is annual maintenance for 4 years where they clean and reapply. In my area, the price was in line with other professional installers for ceramic coating. I shopped around before choosing the installer.

Yeh, I did not say that the ceramic coating made the satin finish shiny. Technically the finish of the stealth PPF from Xpel is called a satin finish. I said I did not notice any noticeable changes other than maybe making the metal flake more noticeable when close enough to actually look at it. I was just saying that in general, the ceramic coating is a hard slick finish that actually provides a shiny finish when applied to a smooth surface like a clear coat of a gloss PPF.

I bet the price is comparable to the DFW area. Maybe the breakdown is just different. I was quoted $5,600 before tax for Xpel stealth, then an additional $700 for Xpel Fusion. That may not included ceramic on the glass and wheels. I’ll have to ask.

It’s a weird scenario, because I don’t want to pay more than other people, but at the same time, I don’t want to pay significantly less, lol.

I understand. I made sure I went with a very reputable shop. They are Xpel factory trained and certified. They are located north of Atlanta in an area where they do a ton of Teslas and crazy expensive exotics. I was sure I probably could have found a bit better deal, but I was more comfortable and confident going with them.

Did the wrap around all the edges, or do that stop right at each edge? I am concerned about that, since this place uses pre-cut pieces. They claim that due to the thickness of the film, wrapping edges and tension points has a tendency to want to pull back and lift.

The place I used wrapped most of the edges. They removed much of the trim and other items they could before installing. They also precut many of the sheets. They actually have a computer program to plan out the panels and sheets. They can adjust the size and how much extra material to have around the edges. There are also some areas where relief cuts are made and some material is removed. Then they have a machine that cuts out the patterns. There are some areas where the thickness can be an issue with shaping thus the need for the relief cuts to allow shaping and removing some material so it does not bunch up. The shop showed me the panels on the computer as they were planning my application. There were two small spots specifically that they showed me would need to have the relief cuts in the sheet. One was the mirrors because of the shape and how they were curved. The other was like towards the back of the cab down near the rocker panel area where the cab curves and the rocker panel section has those ridges. It is not something you could really notice unless you know to look for it.

Scott2022 - I just wanted to let you know that you are to blame! I am picking up my Inconic Silver from AP3 Paint Protection tomorrow afternoon. The pictures they sent me are incredible. When I met with them, I told them I found them via your post. Jon remembered your truck. Being a part of this forum is great for ideas but not for your wallet.

LOL. I can totally relate. I am afraid to even total up all the mods I have done so far. Not to mention that I still have some other things that I want to get done.

I hope your experience at AP3 was as good as mine. It did hurt the wallet, but they provide a quality product and service.

Mine is currently getting done, as I’m stuck in a rental just one week after finally getting my Tremor! 😂🤣

How long was your process? Mine went from an estimated 6 days to upwards of 10, now.
