Puddle Lights

So a couple of additional printed prototypes later, I have a pretty great fitting replacement panel.

Lighting wise, I don’t have a harness worked out yet so I Jimmy rigged it with a long wire to my rock light harness and just had my wife hold it in place.

The dd rock lights has a lot more spread away from the truck. It doesn’t reach as far back along the truck as the OEM light. The OEM light has a really long thin spread. The dd light in my mount is also aimed forward about 15 degrees. I think I’ll reduce that a little to get a little more light towards the rear.

The latest print is also a way better quality surface finish compared to the first couple. Print orientation makes a huge difference!

i agree on the smaller angle forward, to get more of the rear door area some action! Looking nice in amber too
 
Okay dang it… i WAS going to add some ditch and rock lights … but NOW no way will fire off on that yet given all of the @Cblaxx19 R&D before our eyes. Y’all stop it with the awesome ideas so I can spend $$$$!!! Love how this is progressing!

There’s no need to wait on the ditch lights and rock lights! They are complimentary items. The more the better! :LOL:

Is the amber light a backlight similar to other dd lights? ; or do you have to select either white or amber on those?

They do not act like a running light they have 2 brightness modes that are single color. The 2 different models of the light are single color and RGB!

Yea the different colors shown here are just different lenses. These are the single color option vs. the RGB option.
 
So I went ahead and actually installed the panel to see the light output.

The light actually get to basically the back of the drivers door.

Also, this is just the low power mode of the rock light. I just realized that somehow I’d blown fuse 4 which is what my rock lights are on(with 2 other pods) so I couldn’t get a pic with high power. I just fixed that so I’ll grab a picture tonight.

That being said, I’ve updated my model to rotate the light 10 degrees towards the rear. I do t want them facing straight down. I think they provide more use with some forward direction.

I’ve also reached out to diode inquiring about the possibility of specialty lenses to give a wide skinny swath of light if we wanted.

I cut the fwd angle in half to test. I think this is the final iteration!

Now to work on the OEM harness and print settings to get a clean enough print to consider worthy of sending to people!

I’m thinking of making these from carbon fiber infused ASA. It’ll get a smoother look and not show layer lines as much.

Of that light is likely reflecting off the jeep right there and overexposing this picture a little. But it’s a shaped lens to give a long thin beam.
