Sunroof Drama

This is why I was so happy my truck was spec’d with a normal roof. You get more headroom with tin roof as well.
Unless you are 7’ tall you don’t need extra headroom. At 6’5” and my 6’7” friend have plenty of headroom with the sunroof.

Picked it up today. The fixed glass portion was out of alignment and not flush with the body as well as the front weather seal was pinched and out of track. Sure hope this is the end of that drama. 30 days, 3k miles, and 10 days in the shop is not a good start.

Went through the car wash this morning just because and to my dismay…😖

  • The problem occurs in some part of the vehicle that is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and you are within the warranty period. It does not need to be something that keeps you from being able to drive the car. For example, faulty air conditioning or peeling paint could be considered defects under the Lemon Law.
  • You tell the manufacturer about the problem in writing and give them a reasonable period, but not more than 15 days, to fix it.
  • The manufacturer makes “a reasonable number of attempts” to fix the vehicle. This means that the car has been repaired for the same problem four or more times, or that it has been out of service a cumulative total of 20 or more business days during a 12 month period of the warranty.
  • The manufacturers’ efforts to fix the vehicle fail. Under the law, they must either replace your car or buy it back. You get to decide between a comparable new car and a refund.
This will be the 3rd return. It's been in shop for 10 of my 30 days of ownership. Even if it's actually repaired my concern moving forward will be mold forming in the headliner materials. With the humidity here I believe it's inevitable. When I mentioned that I was told they could not replace those materials as there is no defect currently but it was documented.

I would give Ford corporate a call and share your concerns, asking them to replace the headliner. IMO you have been more than patient with your $80k dollar purchase and they need to make it right. I am sure customer support can help here, let us know how it goes. What dealer are you working with?

2nd visit with this. 1st time they couldn’t replicate the issue. Mother Nature assisted today. Headliner is soaked and it’s dripping from the speaker into the passenger seat.
Sunroof Leak
I am having same issue, is at dealer to resolve this issue, for he second time. I can't go thru carwash cause the right passenger becomes a shower head. and just this I received wind a heavy rain and started to drip.

I also really like having the sunroof. I have a 22 and got a car wash a couple of weeks ago and when going under the dryers (the ones overhead are just inches above the roof), I felt a breeze and a couple of drips at the front of the sunroof just behind the Auxiliary switches. I think they have so much pressure, it just pushed through the seal. Then within a mile of the wash I rounded a corner and flow of water dripped from near the front passenger dome light switch. We had no rain for over a week so it was from that car wash. Unlike the 24 with the alignment or manufacturing issue, I would not recommend anyone take your truck through a wash with those blowers to dry it.

Forgot to mention that most all the sun roof leaks come from clogged drains. More so if you park under a tree or whatever getting crud in them.
If that’s the case there are you tube vids on how to clean them.
I’ll never buy without! For me even in dead of summer, all windows down, sun roof and rear windows open and unless dressed to go out, no air. Sometimes windows open and air on but most of all, on the highway with sunroof and rear only open you get very little noise and still get fresh air and a quiet ride

My Ford Tech buddy says most of trucks that come in with sunroof leaks have a car wash sticker in them. They blame the blowers as the roofs are not waterproof like a submarine. Forcing debris into the seals, channels and clogging the drain tubes if not blowing them off. They are meant to channel the water that gets by the seals to the drains. He said the rest was poor maintenance that causes the roof to stick and breaks the plastic track and poor install or factory faulty equipment. My brother has a 21 Raptor, he drove it for a year with no A pillar drain tubes installed. His driveway has a pretty good slope so when it rained it would run to the back of the truck. Driving down the road the wind would push the water to the back of the truck. Parked it out in front of his house where it was level. First big rain storm flooded his front speakers. Truck actually did not have the drain tubes present. Ford did install new ones and replaced the roof speakers and said if the head liner warped or molded they would replace it. It's been fine ever since and I help him Ktytox it a few times a year, so far so good.

Sounds like a good suggestion to watch the videos on cleaning the drains and then routinely check them.

I purchased it from a Capital Ford location several hours away but it's being repaired at a location much closer to home. They've been great and understanding. I also understand their side and believe they're just as frustrated at this point. Was offered a loaner this time so hopefully they'll get to the root of it.

I typically avoid car washes. In the 30 days I've owned it, it's only been handwashed. I went through the wash that day just to see and of course it leaked. When I returned, one of the service advisors was able to replicate the leak with a cup of water. With the sunroof open and the wind deflector up, he poured a cup of water into the channel and it drained properly. He held the deflector down with his hand and poured water in and the it came out the speaker.

I posted this on the other thread, but may be of use here as well:
I had a similar problem on my 2011 FX2 with no sunroof. Turns out the rear center brake light leaked, bad. So bad, I'd come to a stop and could hear all the water rushing through the floorboards to the front, then slosh to the back on acceleration. Local body shop found the drain plug on the underbody and pulled it to drain.
Never really got the musty smell out, so I sold it and bought the Tremor. I'll be keeping a close eye on the brake light and satalite antenna seals.

My 24' was leaking from front passenger speaker as well. I ran weed trimmer string through the drain hole and it seems to have solved the issue for now 🤞

All has been resolved. The leak was the result of a manufacturing defect in the sunroof panel frame where water would back up around around a riveted area eventually finding it's way out through the overhead speaker. The service advisor explained that the same issue was also present in the new frame they were sent and they corrected that prior to installation. There was excessive water present in the headliner with staining and the speaker was damaged as well. All new headliner, speaker, and components.

If you have a 24 with a sunroof and are having these issues, have them check the riveted area on the passenger side.

Having the same issue. To your knowledge, did they seal around all the riveted areas? How long did the replacement take?

YouTube video (I can’t find now). Shows leak patch (vs repair) is to seal rivets with RTV and place butyl rubber over magnetic headliner holders. Specific symptom cited is water dripping through speakers.
