Wait what!!!! [Running Boards]

Truck Step_01.webp

Swapped them this weekend.
C'mon, there's no argument that the factory is installing them backwards.
I climbed in the back and front, and my feet landed exactly in the perforated "step zone."

And, as for the "protect your paint" theory, that's what mud-flaps are for.
With factory tires, that little bit of step won't make any difference. Rocks are thrown out, not in.
Looks way better that way glad I did mine .. I do alot of gravel rds and they hit flaps and the boards

If I wanted more holes I’d unblock some numbers. Or swap to the Tremor Expedition boards though I don’t think they fit.

It is possible if they're labeled right and left depending on how u look at the truck if it was the same three people on assembly line if laneled passenger driver side i get it wasnt installed wrong .. once you switch you will see they look as what they should be .hahaha
i will respectfully disagree man, thats the beauty, we can do what we want! Enjoy the truck, I LOVE mine, backwards steps and all!!! LOL.

I think they look better the factory way, but are more functional the swapped way. My kids appreciate the extra bit of board to use when climbing in and out now

I love the “running boards protect paint” theories. Running boards are used for a step not to protect from rock chips. How is this even an argument.

At the end of the day everyone will put their own little spin on their truck. And 99 percent of them look awesome. Hell I’m sure someone out there is running without running boards at all.

This was the very first thing I did when I bought my truck a little over two years ago. Let me tell you, I averaged a 37Hp and 123FtLb torque increase, I get 47MPG after the switch! My tow capacity went UP by 2,300 LBS and the chicks, man the chicks, I just can't keep up!!! HAHAHAHA, no way no how did Ford install thousands and thousands of steps on the wrong side of the trucks, but switch away if you will!
That's about what mine did !!

Since I changed mine around, I get about 1/4 the amount of dirt and gravel on my floor mat.
All the stuff comes off my shoes and goes through the holes in the running board. (as it should)
😳😂…….Placebo 🐑

After reading all the replies and looking at the pictures I am in the camp that they were installed wrong or designed wrong. I was in the HVAC field and we were always cursing out the engineers. What the eff were they thinking?

I have been "seeing" this and thinking they were on backwards ever since I got the truck even though I read this thread the other day and kind of smiled.

There is a few threads over on the Raptor forums about this. Somebody posted the installation instructions from Ford and to me it appears that they are:

Anyway, I finally gave in and did mine over the weekend.
I do prefer the look and was quite surprised to see that the rubber baby buggy bumpers (Ford accessory) on the doors line up a lot better with the reversed boards:
