What's new

What is your wheel and tire setup?

You can get a 315/70R18 on a Baja boss as well, but it’s going to be a far worse tire for commuting than the recon grappler.

If you’re driving on pavement a lot, recon all the way.
I drive pavement all the time with the Baja Boss ATs and they seem to be fine, BUT, I haven't tried the recons, though I was considering those initially, so maybe the ride is that much better on-road with the recons? The BB is heavier, of course, so mileage is going to be worse, but I haven't noticed much change since I switched from stock. But that +18-ish offset seems to be a sweet spot with these trucks.

Interesting that you haven't clocked a change with a tire that's 20lbs heavier....

Right? 80Lbs more of just tires isn't insignificant, but no, not much of a change... maybe 1MPG?

So my truck, from the beginning, never got up to the stated MPG. Even 100% stock. I was able to get 21mpg on the expressway once (with the Baja Bosses and heavily laden with hundreds of pounds of fuel and gear for the Helene response when I did that). Otherwise, even when stock, I got maybe 14.3, 14.7 MPG. On long road trips before changing tires I got the same, without much difference city to highway. Right now, I'm getting about 13.7 city and highway. I haven't used Forscan to adjust for tire diameter yet and fix the speedometer- and maybe that'd have an effect, showing the true difference?

I would think your MPG may actually improve after you correct tire size in Forscan, since right now you would be technically underreporting miles

35” KO2 definitely took a bit of pep off acceleration but I’m not seeing much worse mpg. The Baja boss is REALLY heavy but I want that next.

My ‘23 401a:

Wheels:
- MR703 +0 Matte Black (selling for +25 so I can get 35x12.5s, which will rub with these +0s)

Tires:
-Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T 295/70R17 34x12 (E)
* Actual size: 33.7x12.1, it’s actually closer to a 305 than a 295.

Suspension:
-Bilstein 6112s (+1”) + 1” spacer = 2” level
-Bilstein 5160s
-Factory UCA, alignments are good. Will be upgrading to SPC UCA once I go to 35s and 8112s/King 2.5 adj-res.
- Deleted Swaybar

Rubbing: None at full compression, full lock on or offroad. No Trimming.

* Will be upgrading to 35x12.5 once these die, and may give the 8112s a try if I can get them at a good price.

@Machine We keep winning

@Calbot If you drive like a grandpa and use cruise control, once vehicle is warmed up, I’m still getting 21-22mpg on the highway and about 17-18 city. These particular Baja Boss A/Ts are the heaviest of the bunch, weighing in at 72lbs, where the 35x12.5 weighs only 68lbs (?).

They are worth it. I can go through heavy mud in 2WD. Rarely need 4WD. My locker has only Been used once or twice.

Those 8112 Bilsteins are very interesting indeed.

Yeah I traded to the KO2 effectively for free so once they are warm I’m gonna go Baja. I’d like to get the ford tune to get a little grunt back but also don’t feel like playing a warranty game.

I think it would as well, and I just need to get the OBD but I need a job first 😭

Got them on and had to do some minor trimming. We moved the crash bars as well.

They are 305/70R18 BFG KO3 on Fuel 18x9 +20. I currently only have a 2" puck but may need to raise the front a little more. I did some minor trimming, and it doesn't rub but when I go offroad it might.

If you don't want to trim more or cut anything you could try SPC UCAs and their cast and camber kit. I've heard it helps a lot with alignment to get everything back in spec and prevent rubbing. Halolifts sells them
