How did you mount the pods beside the winch? Looks sweet!
The plate on the winch mount angles back at an angle from the edges of the fairlead. Just had to drill a hole in that plate. Then the brackets that came with the lights were used. The light is turned 90 degrees in this application. How did you mount the pods beside the winch? Looks sweet!
So clean man!I considered the full bumper option but I wanted to keep the clean look of the factory design.
Not sure if anyone has used them, but not mounting to the frame will still allow damage to the body if impacted hard enough. Basically unless your buying a frame mounted slider you are not providing much more protection than the steps you currently have.did anyone try the https://www.rocky-road.com/rock-sliders.html ? Did we decide if the 3 point mount for the steps is strong enough? ... looking at it, I cant imagine that point where it mounts is strong enough.. deff not part of the frame. EDIT: I guess it's part of the subframe? maybe it is ok? Don't know enough about sub frame on the f150
I had rocky road super sliders on another vehicle 10 years ago and they bolted to the frame. I am not seeing how these for the F150 would be any different. Give them a ring and ask.did anyone try the https://www.rocky-road.com/rock-sliders.html ? Unless I am thinking of the wrong slider set the rocky roads use the same mounting points our steps do and then have a triangular support piece that sets against the frame but doesn't actually bolt to it. At least for the f150 can't say the same for other vehicles. So while they would provide a better support than our current steps it still mounts to the rocker which is the part that we are trying to prevent damage to.I had rocky road super sliders on another vehicle 10 years ago and they bolted to the frame. By getting on the ground and reaching up under the bumperI know im bring back a 2+ year old thread but you guys with the swarfworks winch plate and a winch with a manual clutch how are you guys engaging the clutch?
okay then how when you are stuck deep ?By getting on the ground and reaching up under the bumper
Make sure you brought your boggersokay then how when you are stuck deep ?
So I opted for the remote and no freespool. it is a bit annoying at times but it works for those times whenone hears, "ooh, that's deep"
He just means using the remote to un-spoil manually, as opposed to free-spooling by hand with the clutch disengaged.whats the details on that winch, so you dont have to physically engage the clutch?
How do you like Smittybuilt? I don't really have a preference, they are all the same for the most part. Winches are very simple.I put in a smittybuilt xrc 12k "until I remove the Warn from my PowerWagon" So.. 3'ish years and a bunch of use later, it's still there.
it's been working for me. Hence the reason I haven't been inspired to move my Warn over. My initial thought was the Smittybuilt would be a temporary use item but with one exception (see "ooh" comment above) it's been rock solid alone. That one scenario took my winch and another 12k to remediate my poor decision. How do you like Smittybuilt? I don't really have a preference, they are all the same for the most part.
