What's new

Winches and Sliders and Trails, Oh My!

I would definitely like to hear more about this option. Keep us updated. I would like a winch and debating on which route to go.
It should be here tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get it installed this weekend. Need to find some good replacement fog lights now...

I finally started on my swarfworks and Cobb fmic install. I went with the smittybilt 12k due to some deep discounts and lots of positive feedback from people I wheel with.
I went with Cobb because they reuse the bov and can't seem thing ending well with a non-integrated bov.

I'm trying to figure out how/if I want to try using the bottom plastic flap where I cut everything out.
I'm also trying to tweak the auxlight lead to also be my on/off switch from the cab.

Ok, finally done with everything, looks good all wrapped up!
@DumpsDenny , did you have any issue with the fairlead/spacer mount being too high? On mine, the opening of that stack is ever with the top hole of the bumper. And that is with the bumper raised as high as it will go

So I opted for the smittybilt gen3 x20 12k winch. It has an aux light switch (crapoy little light on the control box) and an on/off switch. Not sure why they didn't just tie those two together (like I did).
So ford switch 4 is now the winch on/off main power, drum(dumb?) Light and a couple of markers I'll put in when my honeycomb grill arrives

I had a bit of a hiccup on the winch mount. The standoff that holds the shims/fairlead with everything back together, is about an inch too high to fit without cutting the bumper tabs and puts the line at an akward position in relation to the bumper. I sent Paul@swarfworks an email with a picture and in only a couple of hours got a response that he just found this out recently (last night?) and will be working on the redesign of the removable part and get it made and shipped ASAP.

Yeah, it's a little annoying that it doesn't fit my (reasonably) new and unique truck. But getting a response and a resolution in a couple hours, fantastic!

I'll keep you guys updated with the progress.

That's awesome they were so quick to respond, that's great customer service and will reward them well.

Hmm curious to see what @DumpsDenny has to say. I contacted him previously to inquire if he had any issues with the Swarfworks winch mount and he told me that there were no issues. I currently have the mount as well and I have it scheduled to be installed next Monday by a customs 4x4 type shop along with a Full Race intercooler relocation. The shop also had reached out to Swarfworks to confirm the mount was compatible ahead of ordering. Wondering if I need to put the installation off for now.

Send Paul an email. Like I said, he responded very quickly.

I couldn't agree more. He was very appologetic and I told him not to sweat it, I'm used to being on the amputee side of cutting edge, at times.

Well when I get to building for the winch I know where I'm going without a doubt.

Wow! That's really all I can say.

Not only was Paul outstandingly responsive to a cutting edge challenge but Swarfworks designed, built and delivered an optimized part to me, in 3 days.

See above. Did you speak with Paul?

Yes, Sir! I sent him an email last Tuesday evening. He responded Wednesday morning and told me he was working on getting the plate made and that he should be able to get it to me by Monday. It looks like it was delivered Friday to the shop I am having work done. I am very impressed and pleased with the service from Swarfworks as well.

Awesome on this company!

Here is my setup so far. I ended up ordering the wrong set of lights, but I have a set of 3x3 cube pod fog lights ordered to sit in the void on the sides of the winch. They are the same style Diode Dynamics as the bumper lights just smaller. I think it will look pretty clean once I get those lights in.

Looks great! I'm thinking about trying the kchilites 5x5 cubes. We have the height but not sure how far they would need to stick out and I don't think they will fit recessed

Ok. I finally got the lights installed so here is the finished look. Definitely, an expensive mod to make with the intercooler relocation, but I like the look. I am debating if I want to add ditch lights.
