What's new

Winches and Sliders and Trails, Oh My!

With lots of pictures!
I’ll try to get good pictures, I usually get absorbed in what I’m doing and forget.

On another note, I got good news and bad news. I got shipping a confirmation from SCV for the intercooler but…
…I won’t see it until Monday so no installation on the intercooler this weekend. I may still rip the front end apart and install the Swarfworks winch mount and Rough Country 12,000 lb pro winch while I wait for the intercooler.

Wishing you the best with the project and looking forward to hearing/seeing the results!

Swarfworks winch mount and Rough Country winch are in, waiting on the intercooler which should arrive tomorrow.

Ok, little update. Everything is in and I’ve started the install, I’m a little busy so it’ll be a 2/3 day job for me…
The intercooler install was very easy, even with no instructions it was pretty straightforward. The SVC components are pretty nice.

Are you sticking with the stock bumper or aftermarket?

Looking forward to seeing this. 👍

Seems this intercooler is roughly twice the cost of others, why? Couldn't imagine the volume nor cooling would be appreciably better than options choosing half as much.

I’m not aware of a half price intercooler option, not for a non-stock location intercooler that is. The Cobb version and this are roughly the same cost.

This. The Cobb, Mishimoto, and SVC front mount intercoolers (those that are relocated to sit in front of the radiator as pictured above) are all similarly priced and all more expensive than the ones that sit in the stock location.

So that is the difference, non-stock location versus stock. Was the non-stock location needed for the winch install?

Yes. You can't put a winch in the bumper with the intercooler there, so it gets moved up into the grill and the winch essentially sits in its place.

Coy. Thanks for the clarification.

Ok, almost complete. I’m doing a few hours per day because I’m trying not to get tired and start being sloppy. I will say that this isn’t a hard job but it takes a good amount of time, much longer than I anticipated. The Swarthworks winch mount is made for the raptor so some things are different and the instructions don’t apply for a bunch of stuff.
The Turbosmart BOV sounds great, just enough blowoff to not be annoying if such thing is actually possible.
I also don’t love the way the winch and fairlead look from the front, I’ll be looking for some type of upgrade there.

Factor 55 has some nice stuff that's well regarded.

I did see their stuff, very nice. I bought a warn flatlink that will look better but I’m really talking about all the open space around the lights and fairlead. Some kind of mesh would be awesome but I’m not much of a fabrication guy.

Maybe the flip up license plate device will fill the area but then you don’t get the nice look of the winch. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Buy some diamond plate or grate used from ramps and cut to fit, paint it and there ya go. All you need is a grinder, cut it, drill it if you need to bolt it and then paint.

If you have a metal supply place nearby, look for ‘expanded metal’ grating like what he’s ^^^ mentioning. Comes in different gauges / thicknesses and pretty easy to work with if you have some shears or grinders.
