402A and Trailer Tow Package-Why?

Interesting, appreciate the info. I read a bunch of the comments on the Long MaCarthur youtbue video and it seemed like the more i read the more confusion there was. Seems like the 2022 towing guide with the Tremor on there clears things up. You'd think Ford would make that pretty clear on the build tool that "Hey, this package gets you 10k towing by adding (whatever it adds)"...

I rarely tow anything over 3500 lbs and have yet to two anything over 7k so I think I'll lean towards saving the $1100 bucks and likely having a little smoother ride without the extra leaf in the back.

I wonder if that extra leaf in the back is why some of the Tremors appear to have even more rake than others?
I have the 402 a with all the goodies including all the tow stuff, it is the best riding truck I have EVER been in!! The ride is very VERY smooth even with the added tow capability, don't worry, get the trailer package an extra 1100 hundred bucks over the life of your loan is nothing.........you never know when you will need it.

I paid the $400 for tow package. It does add a handful of things (but don’t ask what they are bc I forget). But they are material and advantageous for towing.

I paid $1100 haha. Does the job.

You likely have 400a or 401a? The 402a tow package add on is less.
402A. The package originally cost 1100, at least it did in December 21 when I ordered. They lowered it down several times, I believe it’s only 280 now.

I thought the tow package also includes the 36 gal fuel tank vs the 26 gal. I didn't notice anyone include that, but if the 401's without the tow package have the 36 gal tank I'm really not sure what else it is...

As far as I know the Tremor package itself gives the 36gal tank, at least in 21-22 it did, have not seen anything other than a 36 gal tank on them, the tow packages basically consists of the hitch, wiring, brake controllers and something to do with the leaf springs, what exactly I can't say because looking at mine side by side with one that doesn't have it the leaf springs look pretty much the same, some say the intercooler and radiator are slightly different, some say the transmission pan is slightly larger, but I have not noticed any difference and mine came with everything but the 18 speaker sound system and blue cruise.

The 4pin is gone, truck comes with a 7pin to 4pin adapter in the glove box, the 4pin old location was replaced with a 12 pin adapter, this adapter was used for the yaw box that was included but no longer is for the backup assist, it also could be used for a trailer mounted camera and tpms for the trailer, but not all trucks are compatible, and looking to see how many wires are in the connector either 2 or 8 will dictate what features you can use with the plug
I think the lot kids take these out and sell them or something, I didn't get any type of adapter. Is there something other than the 4-pin and 7pin harness that's on the bumper already?

As I interpret this, the 2023 Tremor is a standalone tow package. Both the 3.5 and 5.0 ate the exact same according to this ford chart. With or without trailer tow package. My Tremor has everything for towing except for the trailer brake. Which I assume is all you get with the trailer tow package on a Tremor. *EDIT- I meant trailer tow package, not tow tech package. Interesting, so from 2022 to 2023 towing went from 11Klbs to 15.8klbs?
I don't suppose anyone knows if anything was changed? I

I believe that number is TOTAL including the truck.

After looking again since you asked. For the 3.5 eb it did go from 11k to 10k according to the towing charts for 2022 to 2023. But in both charts the combined total weight for the 3.5 tremor is 17,100 lbs. And the 2023 5.0 tremor is 15,800 lbs combined. Not sure what the difference is in the trucks other than engines. Suspension should be the same, right? A lighter engine with a bit more power and torque gets you 1,300 lbs more of towing? Hmm. Not quite sure about that. But if you use the ford towing calculator website, it will show 7k lbs max towing for the tremor. If I’m using it correctly. No wonder it’s very confusing when it comes to this topic. Personally I wouldn’t want to tow more than 7k lbs in a 1/2 ton.

Well I paid for all the packages and the heaviest trailer I regularly tow has surge brakes :ROFLMAO:

Here is a good summary of the various factors:

In short, GCWR is determined from actual testing, and the tow rating is calculated based on a representative vehicle weight including more popular options. The change between the years was likely because of a change in the weight of the representative tow vehicle due to sales shifts from one year to another. 1000lbs is a bit extreme, with some rounding involved I'm sure, but there is some basis behind the determination.

If you are unsure (because I was as I did not see a tow package listed) you can check on the ford site with your vin.

Finally! Good to see this in print. I feel like I’ve tried similar links before and it never worked. 11,000 lbs just like I was expecting. Most I’ve had my trailer loaded up to is probably 6500 though. That felt plenty heavy for me as a towing newbie.

2022 402A, Trailer technology package, no trailer tow, Torsen front

My 2021 400a has 10900 towing capacity and 26 gallon tank. Don’t have all the fancy tech but don’t really need it either. She does good.

Look underneath between rear bumper and the spare tire. You may have the other plug up there not connected. Its the 12 pin. Mine has it but the trailer wiring harness runs around a grand or so. It includes a backup camera and TPMS for up to 4 tires on the trailer. Not sure if it is all worked out yet with updates some of the guys on here had trouble getting it all working showing the TPMS on the media display/dash.
