What's new

5 star finally has a 21+ tune

I finally got it installed. I'm only running the 87 tune so it's not a drastic change but definitely noticeable. My company pays for my fuel but we're only allowed to use 87 octance on the fuel cards. Catch 22. One day Ill try some 91 and use the 91 tune just to see the difference.

I purchased this one from 5 star and received it last week. Sent in truck info/calibrations last Thursday and still awaiting tunes. Really hoping to have them for the w/e:cautious:
Purchased same thing for my ‘23 3.5 / build date 10/22, received SCT X4 package with all the necessary connectors / jumper wires, got my ECU strategy and emailed 5*, paid $25 to get “fast lane” service for quicker turnaround on receiving my tunes. Only to get email today that reads

Just check into this and looks like the vehicle is unsupported and we will need a .BEF and .SUL file to get support added. Unfortunately it is a code that SCT hasn't seen before and we will need to work with them to get it added. Attached below are the instructions to pulling this info. I will go ahead and tell processing to refund you your $25.00.

“Your strategy code is not currently supported in sct's tuning software. We will need you to send us a copy of your stock file so we can send it to SCT to get it added to the SCT tuning software.
You will want to hook everything up to the PCM the same way you did to get the strategy code. Once completed, on the main menu of the device you will scroll all the way down to bottom and select Device Settings. From there click the very first option to Upload Stock. Will take a little bit to read your stock file. Next you will need to Send us the .BEF file and .SUL file.
This is completed using the SCT device updater software.
You will need to download this software to a PC if you haven't already done so.
With this software open plug your device into the PC with the provided cable.
There will be an option "get stock file from device" select this. It will come up with a screen that says "Browse". This is just asking where you would like the file or files saved at. I recommend the desktop or somewhere easy to find. Once you are done with it click select folder at the bottom.
This will save as a .BEF and .SUL file to your PC.
These are the files we need if you could respond to this email with the requested files.
If you have any questions about this please give us a call and anyone here would be happy to help.
Thanks

Followed directions and cannot get stock file to upload to the X4. Emailed 5* and will wait to see what they say. I’m guessing it’s gonna be an instructions on how to return the tuner and get refund. Very frustrating. I’ll take any advice if anyone has any.

probably just too new , i seen they had some updates on the website for '23's after a certain build date, Im assuming Ford changing encryption and what not to try and keep them out but it doesnt usually take them too long.

Agreed. I don’t want to bash 5*. They were very responsive to trying to get things troubleshot. And I’m ok with using my truck to help provide info/data to them to try and figure this out. BUT, I would say to any ‘23 3.5 Tremmor owners on here, the odds are 5* CANNOT tune your truck remotely via the X4 package on their website for sale at this point.
I spoke to Livernoise and shared my story and they confirmed. That’s why they only support ‘23 3.5 tunning in house via replacing ECU with an older version, and transferring over data from your stock ECU and tuning from there. Which is not ideal either, but it shows some transparency from Livernoise as I’m sure that process isn’t ideal for them as a company either.

^ was wondering how 87 tune was. Prior to my 22F150-Tremor. I had a 2014 F150 w/3.5 and only tuned it to 93 until I sold it and was night and day. How does 87 compare to un-tuned Sport ?

More noticeable than stock in Sport mode ? I may pickup a 5Star with 87 and 93. likely just run 87 because of cost
