GMC AT4X vs Tremor? Trade In?!

So I received an email from GMC today that the Sierra AT4X that I reserved Oct 2021 is going into production and I should take delivery in 8-12 weeks

I bought my loaded Tremor a couple months ago and I’m loving it, but there are def some pros/cons to consider between the two trucks and wanted to get the Tremor forums thoughts on keeping it vs trading in?

AT4X: Pros vs Tremor
- 6.2L V8 14/18 MPG
- better suspension DSSV Multimatic shocks
- Front and Rear Lockers
- heads up display and 13.4” screen
- full grain leather seats with 16 way massage
- 420 HP vs 400 HP

AT4X: Cons vs Tremor
- 32” Tires
- single sunroof vs dual pane
- 460 lbs torque vs 500 lbs
- voice over tech better in Ford than my 2020 AT4
- 9000 lb vs 10,900 towing, though I don’t tow anything nearly that heavy. GMC lower due to suspension more for off-road.

I’m sure there are others I’m forgetting, but these are a few main ones to consider. As for overall exterior and interior looks, my personal opinion leans towards the AT4X as I have owned more GM in the past, though I do think my Tremor is pretty bad ass looking. Especially on 35s!

Love to hear yalls thoughts as I will need to decide when it gets here. Thanks!

Thats the beauty about guys and their trucks, you get to drive the one you want if available.

After owning both trucks and test driving the ZR2, the Tremor is intend the best value and preferred over the $70k ZR2 IMO

Don’t knock the AT4X till you drive one, as the interior is much nicer than the Tremor in my opinion and the stock suspension is hands down superior. Worth $15k more? not sure yet as I need some miles on it. But That’s in the eye of the beholder….😀
I love the v8 sound and always felt that’s all that should be in a truck, until my last truck(f150 2.7tt) I put a tune on it and wow what a difference. So naturally I just installed the JB4 today. You just don’t get that performance bump in a V8 for $500!

Def agree the Raptor and TRX are superior vs a ZR2. But that’s comparing a $70k fully loaded ZR2 vs trying to even find a dealer to sell you a Raptor or TRX for $90-100k+.
Talking towing numbers. If you can’t tow might as well get a Raptor or TRX vs a AT4X or ZR2. That’s what makes the Tremor the Tweener Truck. A little of both worlds. The TRX market has taken a huge hit. There all over for MSRP now.

I totally agree with you. The AT4X and ZR2 only have one thing over the Tremor: #1 front locker but that is only available in 4Lo so technically the Torsen on the Tremor is better all around except for rock crawling, not sure a big truck is the best tool for that sooooo is the front locker better? Please chime in maybe I’m wrong. #2 the stock suspension is better on the AT4X and ZR2 but what happens to that when you want to upgrade and do a 0-2” lift… you throw those out?

The Tremor is better in these other areas, lighter which is critical in all applications from snow to sand to high speed applications, better power to weight ratio, more torque, better MPG, better value, better styling (this is personal), the twin turbo v6 is way more advanced and tunable, at the end of the day you have the Raptor transfer case on the Tremor plus a few more thousand dollars for other upgrades. Having said all that I chose the Tremor over the weight and payload + higher towing capacity. A lighter truck is better off road in every way possible!

But I’m not knocking anyone else that buys the ZR2 or AT4X, they are great vehicles and would love to ride with those guys, it’s about having fun and having choices. For $77k I would have choosen the Raptor or TRX but today’s 30k markups are ridiculous if not illegal. No wonder Ford wants to sell directly to consumers. The dealers are making way too much money (more than Ford). That’s not going to fly very soon!

I wanted to bring this up but saw there was a thread for it already so that's great. I bought my Tremor in January through a leasing company I have setup for our transportation business. I was shocked to find how high the interest was (don't really want to disclose it haha) and that it was the best interest rate I could get, but I was unaware of the higher interest rates that come with buying a Raptor, and I guess also a Tremor? Correct me if I'm wrong on that but it was double what our normal interest rates have been in the past when buying new vehicles. Anyway, I was torn between a Tremor, AT4X, and ZR2. My dad has an AT4 and bought it when it first came out back in 2019 not too long after I had bought my '18 Lariat. I was a little jealous at first with all the upgraded tech (HUD, rear view mirror camera, etc) and the tailgate. That being said, he did have his in the shop a lot more in the first year or two of owning it then I did the almost 5 years that I had my Lariat. His rear bed window leaked on him twice (once even after the dealership 'fixed' it) and also a transmission issue a couple of times. Neither ended up being big, long headaches but still frustrating of course. That being said, it's been around two years since he has had any issues (that I know of).

When I saw the AT4X being announced, I thought for sure that would be my next truck. No doubt about it. Then I just happened to see a Tremor sitting in a dealership lot. Having been happy with my Lariat, I began to look at both the Tremor and AT4X (and ZR2). I kinda wish I would have taken my time a little more, mostly because of all the deletes Ford has on the MY23, and to see how pricing might have changed as we got into Spring/Summer. The other thing to note is that I am not an off-roader at all, I just love the way the off road vehicles look the best (please don't shoot me) so that was obviously a huge factor in my decision. The ZR2 and Tremor price points were basically identical, but the AT4X was/is like $10K more. Both the ZR2 and AT4X seem to be geared more toward off-roading, so I figured I'd be paying for stuff I wouldn't really use and might also not enjoy the ride on my concrete travels. I do also like the look of the Tremor better, although all three are obviously badass looking trucks, and I also like the dual moonroof and keypad entry. Those were actually big pieces into my decision believe it or not.

All that being said, my local GMC dealership is offering an awesome looking AT4X right now almost $5K off of MSRP and at 2.9%. Really makes me wish I would have waited and done more test driving and research between the two. Yes, I would have unnecessary off-road stuff and the ride may not be as comfortable (and might even end up making me hate it), but at that price and interest rate to have the bed liner already in, 2" lift, massage seat, heated steering wheel, HUD, rear view mirror camera, multi-tailgate, kicker speaker system in tailgate (and I like the wheels better than the tremors)... would have definitely made for a difficult decision.

I do really, really, really love my Tremor though as I do personally like Ford's overall quality, exterior, and interior better. I think GMC is doing great things, but some of it is almost 'gimmicky' and I honestly think if my Tremor wouldn't have had the deletions — HSW, blue cruise, interior lights — I'd be way less annoyed about my decision. But it almost feels like deja vu as I had heard about the AT4 being released back in 2018 and opted not to wait, now the AT4X is out and I opted to be a bit jumpy on my decision once I test drove the Tremor. But in the end I did like my Lariat and had less problems with it than my dad's AT4 so maybe I should just look at that and know/hope/believe I made the right decision again. These manufacturers aren't making it easy as everyone is making some great looking trucks and with the technology changing every couple of years, it's easy to get buyer's remorse sometimes, even though you know you have a badass truck.

Thanks for reading about my experience haha. Click the link to see the AT4X being offered near me.

Personally I like that I get the bigger fuel tank with the Tremor

My 2013 FX4 has the large 36 gallon tank too. I had to drive down to Florida after Ian to check my house. I got gas in Venice Florida not knowing that was the last open gas station. I got to my home in Cape Coral with 3/4 left in the tank. There was no fuel stations open for over a week. I really like that 36 gallon tank. I drove many trips to Home depot that week not having to worry about gas. After 10 days I still had enough gas to get to the top of the state if I had to. I'll never buy another truck without a large gas tank

Love the big tank but I have never had to put more than 29 gallons in it (even with 20 miles let to empty).

Does the ATX4 have a flat floorboard in the rear?

A buddy of mine got his '22 AT4 after I got my Tremor. It's ok. Interior is nice, I prefer the Tremor. The thing that surprised me most was that the throttle response on the Tremor seems much better. I guess the small turbos have minimal lag.

This is what I was able to find when building one on GMC's website (it's an option that you have to add).

How is the AT4 entertainment screen. In the videos it looks long but very narrow.

apparently some of the AT4X vehicles are shipping without wireless charging.

I did see that pop up as a delete but wasn't sure. I'd rather not have that than not have a heated steering wheel especially since the wireless charger doesn't do anything when using CarPlay haha.

EDIT: And the window sticker on the specific one I posted says it has wireless charging. Again, not saying I'd make the switch or whatever, but I'll always be comparing/wondering.

My Boss bought a 21 Trail Boss a couple of months before I got my Tremor, his trail boss came with a list of stuff that they did not install because they didn't have the parts, they stated that as soon as the stuff to make things work came in the dealer would install them.......it took right at 1 yr for the heated seats to get the module so he could have heated seats, that was the first thing they got operational, it took till about 2 months ago for him to get the module for heated steering, and he still currently doesn't have everything he paid for after almost 2 full years. You can keep your GM stuff if you want it. I will never own another GM product.

Oh wow that’s some interesting insight! It would be nice if Ford offered to add their deletions but that’s a long wait for something that’s paid for as far as GMC is concerned.

I also just remembered a co-worker of mine has a Yukon, like a 2018, and he’s had to have two new transmissions put in.

You do realize that the tranny's are the same minus the programming, Ford and GM built them together. But yeah that's what GM was doing with the parts shortages, if it wasn't necessary at the time to make it safe they shipped them without parts and gave a promise to make it right at the earliest possible time.
