Well- Just pulled the trigger on purchasing the Borla S-Type Mid Pipe. My current OEM set up has a very annoying ticking, chatter coming from the Resonator and I considered just doing a resonator delete as a first step to correct the issue but I have always had some sort of exhaust on my vehicles. I got the Moditis bug everyone elseon this forum seems to have.
Thanks Texas Tea for point me to Weir Racing. They are still showing it at $790 no tax or shipping- so that saves $100 bucks plus compared to all of the other sites. I couldn't justify ordering the tail pipe kit for an extra $1035, especially after reading a response from a Borla representative on the Raptor Forum. He stated "If you choose to go with the borla branded system you will see the vast majority of the sound improvement from the mid muffler section with only a small change from the tailpipes. The primary reason to purchase the tailpipes is the for the heat shielding and the tips." Those must be some really nice tips!!
I was stuck looking at Corsa, AWE OfG non resonated, and the Borla S Type- They all sound fairly similar and my biggest issue was not hearing any of them in person. I know I don't have the beautiful sounds of the V8 to look forward too but I really am okay with the performance sounding ecoboost. I looked at the Ford Performance mid pipe kit as well, and sure enough it is made by Borla- only difference is I believe it is a 2.75 inch system and not a full 3 inch system like the S type.
In the past I had a 1998 Chevy C1500 with the 4.3L and a 50 series Flowmaster and it was throaty and sounded pretty good. I also have an American Thunder Flowmaster HP2 on my Ripp Supercharged Jeep Wrangler 3.8L and get compliments on how it sounds all the time.
Anyways- I will be installing this myself and will post a video shortly thereafter. I have a little Christmas cash left over and alread considering the next upgrade. I did a drop in high flow air filter so I don't know if going with the S&B CAI is worth the investment. I am probably going to look at the intercooler and BOV next and then finish it off with a set of colder spark plugs and an MPT tune. Stay tuned for some install and sound clips to follow.
