Installed: SVT (Gen 1) Raptor Rear Shocks on Tremor

One other thing about the fox 2.0 snap rings. They have almost identical travel to the stock tremor strut (both approx 5.6 inches) and are almost the exact same overall length.

Also the stock tremor strut is a “snap ring” design but there is only one location for the ring to go. Someone could easily make a perch collar lift for these just like the bronco Sasquatch hoss 2.0.
Our front coilovers only have 5.6” of shock travel!? Whereas the rears have 12”? Wow. Is that just highlighting the differences between IFS and solid axle?

Yes. Shock travel and total suspension travel differ a lot depending on type/design/specs. While the front shock only moves 5.6 inches the wheel is doing more like 9 inches of travel for the front. In the rear the shock can do about 12 inches and the total travel is right at about the same 12 inches.

Ok confused…. I reached out to Fox to ask them how these Gen1 Raptor shocks compared to the current offerings and how different the valving was on the screw vs supercab variants. Fox came back saying the Gen1 were 3” too short to use on Tremor and that the Gen2 was a much better fit. Below is the email:

—————

Fox:
The Gen 1 Raptor shocks BL3Z18125K and BL3Z18125L are approximately 3.00” shorter than the OE spec Tremor shock.

Rear shocks for the Gen 1 Raptor measure 26.89” center to center of mounting points. OE Tremor shock is 29.30-29.50 center to center of mounting points.

2.40 inches shorter than what Fox or Ford consider ideal.

Possible Raptor Generations were confused somewhere? Gen 2, 2017-18, OE rear shocks are 31.00” long – 18.85” compressed. A more viable option.

An answer to this was given a while back regarding potential issue dealing with the compressed length between Gen1 and Gen2

Everything I find is 29.5, extended, exactly what the stock tremor is.

I don't know where you guys are getting 29.5" for stock shocks extended on the Tremor, our measurements have been closer to 30.5" extended. 17.8" for compressed lengths.

You're right. Many posts throughout this forum do say static max articulation is 29.5". My understanding is a few guys have taken measurements of the stock shocks at full extension with the wheel off the ground and measured to 29.5".

29.5 came from Fox via email chat to me yesterday, as well as people on here saying 29.5 measured on the truck at full droop. 30.5 has been the gospel on here for a while, but where did it come from and how was it measured? Is that with the shock removed from the truck and left to fully extended on its own? Was it measured center of eye to center of eye, etc?

I bought a pair of these shocks from Summit Racing today and did my own measurements then reached back out to Fox. He conceded that his initial stance that these were too short was in error and that they do look like a great fit for the Tremor. I’m going to remove my previous post to eliminate confusion.

It looks like someone has found a nice little secret here. Information on OE shocks is not as accessible since the product is only sold through Ford Performance distribution / Summit. I overlooked an important detail about “strapped length”. The extended length matches the OE Tremor spec. As long as there are no fitment concerns, it looks like you can bolt them on and enjoy the ride.

Nice. Now if they would just bring a 2.5 inch bypass product to the aftermarket. They sell a bunch on OEM cars like the bronco and Tacoma. We know you can do it Fox!

@bigredaggie thanks for the homework and the concrete answers to the SVT shocks on the Tremor!

Props go to GKTremor for having the guts to prototype this for all of us.

I installed them today and it went pretty well. My shocks came strapped but only compressed to 29 3/8”. Removing the straps the shock only extended 1/8” to 29.5”. Like others have said they are pretty much impossible to compress with your hands/body weight. I used a ratchet strap to get the shipping strap off without cutting it for doing bench measurements; thinking I might want to put it back on for installation. So with them basically at full extension I had to install them on the truck with the suspension at full droop. For whatever reason, the driver side did not want to droop past 28.5”. Not wanting to mess with compressing the shocks I ended up putting the OEM scissor jack in between the axle and bump stop and forcing them apart another inch or so to get the shock in. That worked fine. I torqued to 66 ft/lbs based on Google, talk let me know if that’s not right. The passenger side drooped basically exactly to the strapped length of 29 3/8 so I was able to just slide the strapped shock right in and then cut the strap.

With the OEM shocks on the bench I confirmed that they are 30.5” center eye to center eye just like Yeti and others have measured. So these Fox shocks are an inch shorter at full extension. But considering I had to use a scissor jack to force my truck to 29.5” I don’t feel too concerned about the extended length.

Took a very short drive to go get some lunch all on pavement and they rode great. Not a mind blowing difference from OEM on smooth roads, but not too stiff not too soft felt just right. I aimed at every pothole and bump I could find and it soaked them all up just fine with quick recovery. I was supposed to go to Deer lease this weekend, but it got rained out so maybe I can put them through their paces next weekend. I also need to go hook onto my cargo trailer and see how these do towing.

If nothing else they look BA.

I installed the Gen 1 raptor shocks on my tremor this weekend. I had the truck on a frame lift where the suspension was fully extended. I still had to compress the raptor shocks to fit. There will be no loss of articulation and I played with it a bit e.g. left compressed right extended, and vice versa, raptor shocks were still not fully extended. There is at least 1.5” of compression at full extension. Just an FYI.

As far as lift goes it’s less than 1/4”, if that. My tremor only has 1k miles on it and I think these factory suspensions settle a bit in the first 5k miles. So it’s basically at the level of factory new.

Haven’t really driven enough to comment on ride but man they make the stock shocks look puny. I second they look BA and more BA in person installed than that of any pictures on here.

I got about 1/4”-1/2” of lift, I forgot to measure until I already had one side on. Feel like I need wheel will liners now, mainly cause I keep looking at the shocks.

Kicking myself hard right now because I should have bought these when they were cheaper. I did just order the front snap ring fox struts. Can’t stand the rake anymore.

So were they the Gen 1 or 2s? I'm sure its been said somewhere in these 7 pages but thought I'd go to the source, lol. Also, I don't carry a load constant or do alot of towing, but am looking at something that will be a better ride on street and beach, these should be good, right? thanks.

Gen 1. You can tell the difference visually pretty much only by the stickers. Gen 1 has SVT and Ford Performance written on it, Gen 2 says Raptor.

Only had mine on a few days so prolly not qualified to review them. I like them better on road so far. Beach is probably a unique use case. As far as weight I have noting in the bed but a spray in liner and Retrax Pro bed cover (maybe 150lbs combined?)

On road with no weight is a slight improvement in ride quality. Nothing to write home about. I’m about to head to coast so will let you know on beach. Off road I suspect is where they shine.

With what you wrote, at this point do you feel it was worth the investment, Considering theres other rear shock options much cheaper.. ie Halo, Bilsteins, Eibach.? I'm strongly considering these but don't want to pay the premium over other options with only a slight improvement.
Another forum member had used the 5100s then moved to the Raptor Gen1 SVT and stated a much improved ride.. Ride is always an individualized perspective.
Did you modify your front suspension?
