What's new

Interesting thread on intercooler.

Thanks again. I may end up doing it just for the noise - I don't want as much as a BOV supplies, and the CAI and BOV are roughly the same money. I may get a couple HP (especially if I put a sticker on the truck), and I get the noise and the aesthetics of it.
Yeah that was my reasoning to myself, but I got the BOV too lol. Kind of regret that (not really) because my mpg took a hard hit since I drive in a way to hear that shit all day lol.

But if you were ever going to do a BOV, do it during the IC change because the IC has to come out to put a bov in.

Thanks for that tip. I had read to do it at the same time. I had a BOV on my Hennessey Raptor, so I know exactly what you mean.

I also supercharged one of my GTOs - talk about a good way to destroy MPG. I had to hear the SC every second I was driving.

What rear sway bar are you going with Hellwig?
Yes. Install is pretty straightforward, no lift needed if you don't mind working tight. I like it so far, feels tighter.

I still haven't made up my mind on which IC to go with, but I did check the Raptor forum. CVF had a coupon code listed for 10% off and free shipping - I haven't tried it yet, but the Raptor guys confirmed it's active - CVF says they'll honor it through 11/30.

Just passing this on for now. If I pull the trigger, I will update this thread.

Yeah, it shows it on the banner on their site, up top its orange and has the code. For what it's worth, they eat the tax too, or roll it into the price i guess lol. Either way that price is all in shipped and all.

Thanks. I hadn't even been to their site yet. This may be too good of a deal to pass up...

Ok, so I've been thinking about doing these for a while anyway and I'm just going to pull the trigger. Ordered the bov last night during research and narrowing down intercoolers...Figured y'all might want my list. I have not included any high mount kits.

COBB TUNING: https://www.cobbtuning.com/products...ation-f-150-ecoboost-raptor-limited-3-5l-2-7l
(HAS FLATS ON TOP AND BOTTOM CAST ENDS FOR FUTURE WATER/METHANOL INJECTION AND DRAIN HOLE DRILLING)

AMS: https://www.amsperformance.com/product/ams-2-7l-and-3-5l-ecoboost-f150-raptor-intercooler-kit/
(THE ENDS OF THIS ARE WELDED NOT CAST AND IT RELOCATES THE BOV TO THE BOTTOM - no longer a top choice for me)

CVF: https://www.cvfab.com/products/cvf-...-f-150-2-7l-3-5l-raptor-ecoboost?ref=ouGJl8mV
(CHEAPEST AND MAYBE BIGGEST? NOT SURE ON THAT AS SOME DON'T GIVE DIMENSIONS)

(BOTH MUSHIMOTO INTERCOOLERS WORK, OLDER ONE HAS A LOGO NEW ONE DOES NOT)

WHIPPLE: https://www.americantrucks.com/whipple-megatercooler-1517-35l-ecoboost.html

Also worth noting, during my research I came across a lot of log data for our intercooler vents. Apparently they are closed almost 99% of our driving time, only exception is spirited acceleration after which it closes immediately. There is data suggesting that removing or opening them gives massive increases in performance, but towing and really hot climates will not really benefit as much. Just an FYI.

REMOVAL OF THE VENTS DOES THROW A BACKGROUND CODE BUT NOT A CEL

ALL INTERCOOLERS WILL REQUIRE THE VENT SHROUD BE REMOVED

COMPARISON PICS:

Mushimoto (4.72" thick) vs stock

CVF (5.32") vs stock

COBB vs stock

something to add here and maybe my situation is unique but the CVF Titan 2, after removing the air shroud from the shudders I still had to cut off about 1/4" of the remaining plastic to get the IC to fit into place properly

After spending the last few months monitoring my IAT's, I knew that the next step on my truck was an intercooler.
Been looking around at the options. I just pulled the trigger on the Mishimoto from Amazon. It was the easiest to get shipped to Mexico.
All in all, with shipping it was still over a grand.
After that, I am off the forums for good. Trying to keep up with you guys starting to affect my grandchildren's inheritance. (LOL!)

Turbosmart just came out with an IC for the F150, I added it to my list with a link on the 2nd page of this thread. Looks good and I love the logo on the top, but it doesn't do anything the others don't.

Cvfab is still the top choice imo, but more options are good.

Man I thought the Mishimoto did have that drain. I have reading so much and watching installs I am probably just mixing up all the information at this point lol. Thanks for the heads up. I will continue to read up on all of these before pulling the trigger. Thanks again.
Mishimoto does have the drain plug. I’ve been researching for an intercooler prior to stumbling on this forum

Yes it does. We were all researching this back then and figured it out. It's been a couple of years. There may be updated versions and other brand options since. Thanks.

Which of the brands offer a high mount IC? Seems like for a Tremor, if you upgrade the IC you might as well open up the possibility of a winch and/or an offroad bumper.

Personally I wouldn’t get a new IC just for performance but the ability to add a winch might do it for me.

CVF has a high mount, I have one on the truck.
