What's new

Interesting thread on intercooler.

As someone too lazy to keep on top of that I’m thrilled to hear it has no downsides for me lol

Now I just need to find some catted downpipes and figure out if supply side plumbing is worth the upgrade and I’ll hopefully have Pandora’s box emptied enough to get the lid back on.
I have glanced at catted downpipes and haven't seen much that is of interest for ours yet. I also haven't looked to see if it is different than the previous model years....so these are for 2020, but good options of they fit.

AMS is about the best you can get, and you will pay for it.

SPD is a good quality cost effective option, but doesn't provide as much flow.

Can't really get confirmation that the Mishimoto IC fits the Tremor? I know COBB confirmed fit. Assuming if the COBB fits, Mishimoto should be good? Is the Tremor 3.5 that much different down there? Was about to pull the trigger but worried not fitting. It's a long way to Hawaii. Don't want to be wrong lol.

I cannot imagine there is anything different....they have been pretty much the same on all the f150s since like 2015. Some hose route changes etc, but the 2015-2020 IC's fit our gen, and I know for a fact of a thread where one was a mishimoto (again, a 2020 but still).

Just spoke to Mishimoto directly. Ya they could not confirm fitment for the 2021. They stated that if our OEM IC part # is the same as the 2020, then we should be good. Sounds like we know it will fit. He did mention that the IC for our trucks do not have that drain plug but their Universal IC do? Man more confusion

That actually is really weird because it was lierally pictured....I know for a fact the 2020 fits our gen (but i haven't seen it on a tremor specifically). I will confirm this weekend with the cvf though. They all should be basically the same. My BOV gets here tomorrow and the IC Friday. So this weekend with be that install.

I think its one of those where they technically didn't try to fit it themselves so they don't want to say it does but they probably know it will probably fit no problem. On the CJPony site it comes up as up to 2022. Part number looks the same but it's not showing that white M on the front like the up to 2020 ones? I don't think that matters hopefully. Ya when looking at the pics of the IC, I'm pretty sure I see a drain plug or what I think is the drain plug. Either way I may just pull the trigger soon. I am pretty sure the Mishimoto will fit on our trucks with no problems. I am just not 100% all the way to Hawaii sure yet 😂

100% agree. The thing is, they all have to fit inside the same mounts. The mounting location for those brackets isn't moved or different, so the only thing that matters is size (low hangingfruit right there...). Anyways, the point is they can't really be taller only thicker and the one I am getting is the biggest on the market. So, if that works I'd be willing to say almost all will as long as the cuppling connections remain the same.

Livernois IC is definitely not on backorder

Alright.....the deed is done.
Install took about 1/1.5 hours because I did it alone and the hard way so everyone would know...

The job can be done totally flat with no lift/level/jack. I just did it. No stands, no level on the truck, nothing. But it fucking sucked...

Also, a side note, you MUST take off the plastic guard around the active vents for a new IC to fit.
The clips need separated to remove. The top sucks.

That being said....this CVF is INTENSE! It is SOOO well made....its also HUUUUUGGGGEEEE The fit and finish is something I would expect from a product twice it's price. The return side has a lip that reuses the clip/ring thing from the OEM one (a feature I know is not on all new IC's).
This ring/clip thing.

Overall I couldn't be happier, this is the biggest IC you can fit (literally no extra room) in the stock location. The quality is fantastic. BOV souds awesome and the HP potential is phenomenal. I would be upset having seen/handled this and payed twice as much for the others.

You'll need an impact or a breaker bar, a flathead and/or a pick, a size 4 Allen wrench, a size 3 Allen wrench, and a 7mm, 13mm, and 15mm socket.

The 7mm is for the clamps if you choose to use it, you can also use a flathead.
The 13mm is for the skid plate.
The 15mm is for the bolts on the IC support.
I can post instructions if someone wants/needs them but there are a million videos of it.

The Mishimoto and Turbosmart came in earlier in the week. Had some time to install today. Seemed easy enough but did get hung up on some things that I wasn't expecting too lol. Probably didn't need to but used ramps. As I was lying underneath adjusting things, realized the extra space is great, but it made it harder to reach things while lying down. May not be a problem for guys on the taller side with longer arms. Got hung up taking that plastic piece that is connected to those shutters. The top if it just didn't want to come off. Also, the 2 plastic clips that attached the BOV wire to intercooler kicked my butt and I had all the right tools. Other than that, everything fit perfect and install was pretty smooth. Did not have a chance to drive yet but Truck starts up and no check lights or anything so far so good. 😂. Sorry to the OK pics. Was kind of in a rush to finish.

I glady buy the parts but don't want any part of that install. Maybe I can coordinate with my next suspension lift to have them do this as well.

Why not? It's pretty simple. Mine comes in this week hopefully. Will report back. I got the mishimoto, but I found the new gen on Amazon with the drain, in silver instead of black with the M on the front like the old one.

Buddywife:

Noun, plural buddywives [buhd -ee waɪvz].

1. Comrade or chum, potentially of the opposite sex and particularly when speaking in terms of one's own marriage (often used as a term of address)

Now that that's cleared up....

I have no idea how much it would cost, but really it's crazy easy. Like I said in the writeup, i did it without even jacking the teuck up and I put the biggest intercooler available on. Worst part really is getting it up in there. Hence the buddywife recommendation lol.

I absolutely love the pssshhhhhh everyday I drive the truck I smile more now haha. The dealership commented on it yesterday when they did my recall/5k tune up, everyone loves it.

There is not a single more important/impactful mod than an intercooler for these 3.5l imo. Don't sleep on it! You won't get but dyno results but the engine will thank you.

@Dfris, please excuse my ignorance, but did you mount this in the stock location or in the front? Pictures I've seen from other suppliers' front mount intercoolers look different than this, which I anticipated, but I asked asked CVF directly about a front mount intercooler and they gave me the part number of the one you're using and said it would work with no additional parts. I'm questioning their response, so checking with you.

This mounts in the stock location, it is definitely not a fmic. It's a fantastic product and has kept Temps very low while towing this summer (one of the main purposes for me) but alas cannot be front mounted.
