New Audio System Update

Did they happen to say if this big update will push via normal means, or will this be a "recall" like situation for folks when they get an oil change? Thanks and I hope this works out for you. - Rob

At the dealer now. Service advisor pulled up a TSB that says a BIG sync 4 update is coming that will require me leaving the truck for a day or two while they run the update. They're checking for any updates while it's in here though but they said they've heard this a lot from these years and it's a known issue. (Battery drains, reboots, freezes, not updating, etc)

We shall see.

SSM 53088 Vehicles Equipped With SYNC4 - Intermittent Symptoms After All Available Software Updates Performed - Awareness Of Solutions Being Developed
Some vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms after all currently available accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software updates have been performed.
- General system performance, stability, and intermittent system reboots.
- Intermittent Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto function.
- Phone related concerns with intermittent No Audio or Static.
- Navigation/global positioning system (GPS) related concerns through CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Alexa function consistency and stability.

These symptoms may be due to the software in the APIM. Replacing the APIM will not resolve these symptoms for the customer. Before returning the vehicle to the customer, review the procedures within Workshop Manual, Section 415-00 and ensure the latest APIM software is installed. Refer to General Service Bulletin (GSB) 23-7146 for help determining the latest available level of software.

IMPORTANT: some module software updates will only display as available on Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) after prerequisite modules areupdated. This may require the technician to update certain modules multiple times during the service visit, before the latest APIM software is accessible in FDRS.

If symptoms continue after latest APIM software has been installed, inform customers that Ford is working on additional software enhancements which are expected to be delivered over-the-air (OTA) by late Q4 2024 on F-150, F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, Mustang, Escape, Corsair, Expedition, Navigator, Bronco, Mustang, and 2023-2024 F-Super Duty. Software will update automatically if vehicle connectivity is enabled in the vehicle's settings. Schedule a service visit for customers who have disabled vehicle connectivity or who report that they did not receive the update in late Q4 2024. Monitor OASIS for additional information.
Damn….1 or 2 days to do a SYNC 4 update?
Do they have to type out every line of code?

The TSB I pasted indicates OTA.... Of course if your shizz is so effed up like mine and won't ever do OTA.... Yeah. Read the TSB. They'll manually update everything....

I found my truck had an audio update sent from ford. I was never really happy with the B&O system so I told it to update right when it came through.

All I can say is WOW it makes the system sound like it should. Also the processor seems to utilize the speakers in the headrests much more effectively.

Only downside was it seemed to reset myview (again).
What year truck is yours ? I haven’t seen one yet.

I got this today OTA. Sounds like the TSB you noted.

I got that update on December 21. It seems to have fixed an annoying Sync 4 reboot issue that I was having. I haven't had that reboot since receiving the update.

I checked my software and I have this update on my truck (10.1). So it is or can be done over the air because I haven’t had mine in the shop. I also have automatic updates set because I never know when they’re going to update things and I figure they can’t screw things up too bad or at least I hope they don’t with an update. I guess the question I have is whether this software update includes the big audio enhanced update that everybody is talking about on this thread.

That's the one. Hopefully I get it soon as well. Maybe my truck will have it when I get home from airport.... I'll put it on the Wi-Fi and battery tender tonight as well because low charge will make updates fail.

It can be OTA, and should be. The TSB indicates if your stuff is too out of date / failed updates, etc, the shop may have to manually bring everything up to date because some depend on others etc

I hope you get it too. I was out of town for 2 weeks over Christmas and got the "Remote features disabled..." message in my Ford Pass app. I put my battery tender on overnight and received this update about 1 or 2 days later after driving around. Still no audio update, though.

Where are you finding/checking software version?

Still waiting....

Ford has definitely made it annoying to find this information outside of the truck center display. One way is through the Ford website via your account. You login, go to the Vehicle Dashboard, select the Maintenance tab, click Vehicle Health Report, click Sync Updates, let it cycle a little and scroll down. You'll see a little box on the right with the SYNC Generation and Version.

if I remember correctly, it is one of the screens leading to getting software updates. And when you go to it, it will tell you it’s up-to-date and show you the version. I can’t actually confirm this though because my truck is in the shop working on the driver seat, so I can’t go out there and make sure. When I get my truck back, I will clarify it further if nobody else has jumped on here and explained it further.
