What's new

New ICON F150 3inch Suspension

I’m all for trying smaller brands. I just want to know that the longevity of the product will be there. I don’t plan on beating the crap out of the shocks but I don’t want to rebuild them every 20k miles like others are talking of some of the other brands

It seems @Tremor Trails and @Bannerman if memory serves correct are running the elka setup from halo lifts, they are the 2.5 mountain package again if memory serves correct. Elka while newer to the offroad truck market has been producing units for offroad UTVs for years as well as motorcycles, really have heard anything bad about them. They must be pretty good units being as that halolift switched from using Bilstein absorbers with Eibach coils to using the Elkas with either the Elka coils or the Eibach coils. The only other units that I would be interested to see more info on are the new procomp units that came out last year. But at the same time procomp used to be in the same category as RC at least in my prior experience, although both companies seem to be stepping up their game.

Just received email from fox, they work on the tremor and provide 1”-1.5” of lift.
Front and rear?!

That'd be perfect. Could swap out the 2.5" rough country's and go with 35s and not have to hear additional bitching from my wife about having to climb even higher to get in.

Good luck with 35s and 1.5". You'll rub in turns, in reverse, going over a ramp, basically anything. Unless you cut out your liners and crash bars almost completely, which is a waste on these trucks imo.

So my personal experience with 9 sets of Icons.
8 were fantastic and only had 2 oils leaks that were out of normal expectations. This latest set (6 years after my last set) were fantastic for about 3 months. At first I noticed a small amount of oil and a lot of rust. When I reached out to icon, I noticed they changed to "incompatible with Tremor" and their response was to basically pound sand.
A BBB complaint and 3 months later, Stage3 reimbursed me for them.

If I lived in New England and drove in the salt water daily, I would expect this. Not in Nashville where I don't drive weekly.

I've loved icons for a single reason, no matter what I hit, they soaked it up. I can't say that about kings, Fox or Billstein and have broken the lot.

That all said, icon will always have a place in my heart, just not in my wallet. For me, Kings are out (not my use case) and Billstein doesn't have 8112s for us (plus thud..). Elka with eibach springs is probably where I'll end up since the Fox 2.5s are too short for my 1.75" of needed lift and 3.0s are overkill for my use
I don’t know whats more amazing? You had 9 sets with only two leaks or how bad the new set looks. So they denied your warranty due to the Tremor application? I can see that if you pulled them apart, but the finish has nothing to do with that. I also don’t know why KING’s can ever be taken out of any use case. They can be custom made and tuned. Problem is the wait time is so high for any custom shock right now you may have a new truck before you get them.

I think if i was going to build a true overlander without doing a diff drop lift kit to get big tires. I would do a Raptor swap on the front and run a longer shock to get the lift and narrow the track width. Still get a little CV angle help and maybe get 37‘s under there,

Lol, 2 unexpected leaks.. the rest were in the 20k mile range. Kings are definitely great and can be tuned for anything but they can't be tuned for everything. We'll, unless you go away from their skillset. Icon would have repaired them within the year but from a liability standpoint, me getting in an accident with suspension that is "not compatible" isn't a thing, for me.

I had Icons on my previous Tacoma. I had them rebuilt at 40k miles but no unexpected leaks prior to that. I did upgrade to Viton seals when I had them rebuilt, but I sold the truck about 5k miles after that so can't really comment on any difference.

Living in the desert i didn't have any issues with rust or corrosion.

But once Icon releases their "Tremor" line-up I'll be going with them. I already have the CDCV rear shocks, but if they make something specific to the Tremor I'll probably swap to that.

I'm also very intrigued by the CDEV stuff they have and will definitely be doing some research on those.

Just rip my heart out then. 🥲

Keep your stock wheels and this works just fine. 285/75/R18 34.8” O.D. Halos with collars spun almost all the way up for about 1.5” lift. Zero rubbing or problems

I put ADS shocks front and rear on a few weeks ago. Resis with clickers. The front coilover gave me 1.5 inches of lift. Next level performance, for me. I think suspension performance and feel is so personal. It's like trying to say who makes the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Check out ADS, I think it's a pretty good sandwich.

I've been looking at Icon, Fox, or King for when I get my Tremor. I also contacted RadFlo suspension and was told they will have a Tremor early next month (Sept). I've had RadFlo's on my FJ Cruiser for several years and when I was deciding between Icon and Radflo the guy at MetalTech 4x4 told me the only difference was Icon anodizes the internals and RadFlo doesn't. They are out of California and have been in the off-road scene for the last several years. They also said the cost of the front and rear would be ~$1975 for the front (2.5 with ajustable resi) and ~$675 for the similar rear.

I’m also thinking about doing a Raptor front end swap. For me it’s a tested proven system with Ford parts. Warranty might not be affected if installed by a dealer. I also like the OEM parts. I have been patiently waiting for the Tremor specific aftermarket to come to life but it’s basically non existent.

Do you know how much that front end swap costs? I've been curious about that.

There are many different ways of doing it, plus if you want to improve on the stock setup. You can get a mid travel kit around $15K without glass. PAX Power will do the basic swap for $20K and climb fast with options. This is the easiest and probably the best way to go if you have the money. If you are patient and shop around for used take offs I have seen people do it for $5K just for the parts in the front and rear using Gen1 stuff. No glass, labor or wider rear axle. I see so many Toyota guys doing mid travel and setting them up for bigger tires vs desert use. That's what I would try and do. Everyone running 2.5"+ lifts are maxing out the down travel and CV's. The wider A-Arms and longer axles would give you the CV angles back plus the ability to set them up for a taller ride height to clear 35'-37's. I wouldn't even do glass because I would run a longer shock and I already have 3" of tire sticking out now with my street wheels. Maybe the next build, but my next truck will probably be a Raptor R.

So i was just stalking Icon's site and they now have two different options for 2021+ F150s in the 2.5" diameter shocks
0-2.75"
2.75-3.5" with their "Pro" UCA

Just speculation here - but I'm willing to bet that the higher lift version will be rolled out as being "approved" for our Tremors....

Afaik their UCA doesn't work with the adaptive headlights for anyone considering them. It doesn't have the mount for the sensor.

they now have a bracket to mount the leveling sensors to the billet UCA's. nothing for the tubular that i can see.

According to their instructions there is a bracket that is sold separately. But I don't see a part number...

I can attest that the icon tubular uppers come with the bracket for the headlights. I have them installed on my rig, I did not utilize the bracket because of my trim level.
