Oil change question 3.5 ecoboost

Mine has the nipple and I connect a section of clear hose about a foot long to it to drain into my catch pan. Usually start draining, change filter, and oil pan is completely drained by the time I get the filter changed.
This is the one I’m using

F137N: LONG NIPPLE OIL DRAIN VALVE WITH M12-1.75

Fumoto oil drain valve is a great investment and on level surface oil filter drains through back square in skid plate.

5.0 in my fx4, stupid drain tray under the filter, makes a mess every time, hate changing oil in this vehicle. Can never get a can of brake clean in there to spray out tray either. Drips oil residual for 2 days, just a drip or two to annoy my ocd. LOL, rant done.
On my Tremor and my last V8 I just stuck a rag on one end. Usually it was the end away from the filter for the filters going to spill shit anyways.

You guys must be doing something wrong or you’re rushing because I rarely spill any oil on my Lariat or TREMOR.

Any tips for not spilling filter oil ?

All I know to do is:

1) completely drain the pan oil
2) loosen filter to catch more oul
3) remove filter and dump into small pan/bucket to avoid spillover.

Can I expect them to charge me more $ because of the skid plates on the Tremor?
Can't say about the skid plate, but if you're going the Ford "The Works" route they'll charge you for the additional qts (the amount in the Works price is just a few qts).

After a bad experience (at a dealership I still actually trust) I change my own and add the oil/filter info to my Ford account (important for warranty purposes). I don't trust anyone to put the skid plate back correctly (btw, it's an easier oil change if you take it down) nor do I trust anyone will clean everything up correctly if the skid plate isn't removed.

I also don't trust that these oil change places actually add the amount of oil they say they do as checking the dipstick has shown me several times. I guess that if these places can under add by 1/2 qt on every oil change it adds up in their favor. So if you know what you're doing and are capable of doing it, it's better to do the change yourself. And I say this as a dude with some really bad mil-related injuries and some disabling "I'm getting old" arthritis.

After draining the oil from the pan and replacing the plug, unscrew the filter a bit until the oil starts flowing out but do not remove it.
Just walk away and let gravity do its thing for 15-20 minutes.
Afterwards, slowly unscrew the filter but keep inward pressure on it until it disengages from the filter housing and make sure that the filter rotates in the upward position, which can be done with your thumb and third finger.
By doing this, all of the oil that’s still left in the filter will not spill which in turn will make cleanup a lot easier.
I’m never in a rush to change my oil so I usually designate 1-2 hours.
Yes, I know this is a long time but as the oil is draining, I’m usually doing other things around my house that are non-vehicle related so everything balances out.
Good luck to you.

Do you use ramps or jack the truck up to change the oil?

I also advocate the Fumoto oil valve as others had recommended from this page. works great, takes a bit more time but way less mess IMHO.
Installed mine with the Raptor skid plate last fall before a KOAR (Keweenaw Overland Adventure Retreat) up in the U.P.
Highly recommend both(y)

How many miles are you guys doing between oil changes? The onboard computer seems to give too many miles/time to me. I used to do 3000 mi on older vehicles and know newer vehicles/engines can supposedly go longer. Seems like 5000 miles would be best? Or should I not be concerned about it and stay with the computer?

Even bmws will tell you 10k these days. If you drive hard probably 5k, if easy 7500. 10k just seems wrong.

I ignore the computer and owners manual and always change my oil between 3K-4K.

Not necessary, plenty of room to crawl underneath.
So I finally got around to changing the oil in the 2023 3.5EB Tremor..:

Here’s my take on this, started off pulling in the garage to evaluate if I needed to jack it up or use ramps, I’m not a little guy and I’m pushing 60yo, I didn’t use ramps or a jack, I only removed the excess plate and was able to reach up and loosen the filter by hand ( it was tight but was able to muscle it loose) I just loosened it a half turn just enough to know I would be able to remove it, I then went under the passenger side to get to the oil pan drain screw, there was no felt or anything covering the drain, with the 15mm wrench removed the plug and let it drain 15 to 20 minutes and replaced the plug, I moved to the front and unscrewed the filter till it drained nicely thru the hole in the skid plate, I waited for it to stop and finish removing the filter and replaced with new, went topside and added 6qt of Mobil 1 5w 30.. very little mess and was relatively easy! But I still want to know how to start the truck with the hood open and using the remote start key fob, i tried by pushing the lock and then start twice but the truck will just give me a double horn honk!

I do every 5,000 and have done so on a ‘13 SCrew Eoboost (160,000+), ‘19 Raptor and current Tremor. Live in Florida Panhandle where it is hot and quite dusty.

I did 5k mile intervals on my '13 EcoBoost as well, with Mobil 1 up to 193k miles.
Doing the same with my '23 EcoBoost.
